A native of Syria, Dr. Okka completed his residency at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland in Pontiac, Michigan, and joined Clarkston Internal Medicine in 1998. With a special interest in inpatient care and cardiovascular disease, he has an extended practice that includes practicing as a hospitalist treating other physicians' patients.

Mental Health
Dr. Mirijanian lives in Clarkston with her son, daughter-in-law and grandson. She has a daughter who has a Doctorate in Physical Chemistry and presently works for the NIH. Dr. Mirijanian enjoys classical music and art, and loves going to the opera. In her spare time she enjoys cooking and gardening. Dr. Mirijanian's journey as a physician has been filled with multiple opportunities in teaching as well. She supervised and trained medical residents for St. Joseph Mercy Hospital and was an Assistant Professor at Wayne State University Medical School. In conjunction with her work at Clarkston Internal Medicine she also worked at the Oakland County Mental Health Department and was the medical director for the research on Fragile X Syndrome. The success of the program was recognized in the Oakland Press.

Hypothyroidism, also known as "underactive thyroid disease," is a common adult condition of the thyroid, a gland that regulates the body's energy. It occurs when the thyroid gland stops producing enough of the thyroid hormones T3 and T4. When the thyroid does not produce enough hormone, it slows down the body's metabolism and the gland itself shrinks as its cells are destroyed by the subtle effect in the patient's immune system. The gland is shaped like a bow tie wrapped around the windpipe at the base of the throat.
