General Info
Going to the dentist isn't exactly something people may enjoy, and we understand that. Dr. Mays wants you to know she will not just clean your teeth and send you on your way. She believes in taking a much deeper approach and focusing on the health of her patients rather than treat everyone the same. Knowledge is power, and we want to share that with you. We want you to feel comfortable and happy knowing that we are treating you the same way we'd treat our family. Give us a call and schedule your appointment today.
The best way to maintain optimum oral health is to visit Dr. Mays and her dedicated team in Cincinnati twice each year for a prophylaxis appointment, which is a fancy way of saying a dental cleaning and exam appointment. These appointments are crucial to removing tartar that brushing and flossing alone cannot remove. Your mouth will thank you for it!
X-rays
Oral Cancer Screening
Oral cancer screenings help detect oral abnormalities early. This procedure will be completed by Dr. Mays and can help identify precancerous, or cancerous abnormalities before they worsen. This can save the structures of your mouth from deterioration due to cancer and can save your life. Thousands of people die annually due to oral cancer. A simple oral cancer screening can be a factor in preventing this.
A toothbrush cannot remove all the plaque and tartar from your teeth, so it is important to visit your dentist often to have this process done during your regular cleanings. If bi-annual dental cleanings are consistently missed, then scaling and root planing may be necessary to get the teeth properly cleaned.
Fluoride Treatment
A fluoride treatment is the application of a fluoride solution to the surface of your teeth. This helps to strengthen the enamel, prevent cavities and decrease sensitivity. Fluoride is beneficial for both children and adults.
Dental Sealants
Dr. Mays can provide dental sealant treatments to protect you, and your family’s teeth from decay. This is a preventive measure to help avoid costly and more intensive dental care in the future.
Dr. Mays provides only composite fillings, which are fillings that use a tooth-colored resin to fill the hole. This resin matches your teeth, so it will not be noticeable once the filling is in. Composite resins are custom-made to match the shade and shape of your teeth. These types of fillings require the same care as your normal teeth: daily brushing and flossing and regular trips to your dentist.
Veneers
Veneers and bonding are treatments used to repair broken, chipped, or discolored teeth. These processes are slightly different, but both are available at Dr. Mays’ office.
Crowns
First, Dr. Mays will prepare the tooth to receive a crown. This simply allows the space required for the crown to be able to fit over the natural tooth. While this is happening, Dr. Mays will remove all the decay from the tooth as well. Following this, an impression will be taken of your teeth which will be sent to a lab so your crown can be custom-created for your mouth. While waiting for your crown to return from the lab, Dr. Mays can provide you with a temporary crown. Once the crown returns from the lab, Dr. Mays will clean your tooth, and then place the crown using dental cement. Once the crown is placed, the cement will harden, making the crown a permanent part of your smile.
Bridges
Dental crowns and bridges are used to repair more severe damage to the structure of the teeth. A dental crown is a method for repairing a severely cracked, damaged, or decayed tooth. A dental bridge replaces a missing tooth or teeth. Dr. Mays provides both services, ensuring that you get back to the smile you know and love as soon as possible.
Dental Bonding
A porcelain veneer will last longer than the material used for bonding. With the proper care and consistent visits to Dr. Mays’ office, veneers should last between ten and fifteen years. Bonding, a great, cost-effective alternative to a higher-end porcelain veneer, typically can last between 5 and 7 years. However, with proper care, you may be able to get a decade out of dental bonding. Also, bonding can easily be touched-up, as necessary, over the years, which can extend its wear. Dr. Mays will continually check your veneers and bonding to make sure they are in good shape!

At Dr. Mays’ office, we strive to provide you with a variety of services to fit your needs. From preventive dentistry to cosmetic and restorative dentistry — we offer comprehensive dental services under one roof. To learn more about the services we provide, please visit the "Our Services" page.
Dentures are a solution for the replacement of lost or missing teeth. They are removable, prosthetic set of teeth that will give the appearance of a natural smile. Dentures can be removed from your mouth for cleaning. Both full and partial sets of dentures are available, so you can customize them to your needs. Dentures use the hard and soft tissues of your mouth for support and sit against your gums.
Dr. Mays will do every part of your procedure, except for the surgical implantation of the implant into your jaw bone. For this, she will recommend a variety of excellent oral surgeons who she knows and trusts. Once the implant has been placed in your jaw, Dr. Mays will take over the procedure. She will help create the false tooth that will sit on top of the implant and will place it in your mouth, teaching you how to remove it, clean it, and care for it. Dr. Mays will be with you every step of the way, educating you about the best options for sedation and long term oral health. Her patients’ comfort and confidence in her procedures is the most important thing to Dr. Mays.
Preferably, you’re able to keep all your teeth for your lifetime and that is our goal at Jane R. Mays DMD. However, sometimes damage, decay, or crowding can cause the need for a tooth to be removed to avoid further damage to the teeth, mouth, and jaw. This is an instance when tooth extraction will be a good solution.
At your initial appointment, Dr. Mays will begin by taking intraoral photos and X-rays of your mouth. She will send this information to Invisalign®, and they will confirm what ‘case type’ you are. Your case type depends on how much aligning your teeth need. There are three different case types: Express 5 case, approximately 2 months of treatment, Express 10 case, approximately 5 months of treatment, and a Full Invisalign® case, approximately 1 year of treatment. Once your case type is determined, your trays will be formed, and you can start your journey to a straighter smile!
Braces
The best part about Invisalign® over traditional braces is that Invisalign® is removable. This means that you can enjoy eating and drinking whatever you want during your treatment, unlike traditional braces. There are no metal brackets or wires that cause irritation to your mouth, tongue, lips or the inside of your cheeks. Since your adjustments occur by switching trays instead of having physical adjustments made to brackets or wires, you’ll likely spend less time at the dentist’s office as well. Invisalign® is also less noticeable than traditional braces. If you’re interested in a discreet method of straightening and repositioning your teeth, Invisalign® might be for you.
