Amazing place to get my first dental exam in years! Looking out for my my teeth as well as my mental well-being (free laughing gas!) by not only assessing my oral health, but any traces of dental anxiety.

They were great! No one treated me like a freak, I had a paraffin treatment on my hands, shoulder massage, teeth cleaning, x-rays, etc. I paid my co pay and an additional $30 and was out the door.
Fluoride Treatment
When they suggest things you cannot afford or have no interest in, you just have to have the balls to say “no, thanks.” For instance, when they mention fluoride treatments (at MY age, not necessary), I say, “no, thanks.” These are NOT covered by most dental insurance policies. I learned this the hard way when my partner agreed to this, and we got billed for it. I was pissed – but you live, you learn. Bottom line – just say to them “tell me what is covered by my insurance and I will think about it.”
Dental Sealants
In some cases, laser therapy may seal the tiny exposed tubules and solve the problem. Another therapy includes dental sealants or bonding agents, which create a barrier similar to natural enamel. Sometimes treating the symptoms is the best solution. We may suggest a soft-bristled toothbrush to protect your gums from further irritation, an electric toothbrush with a pressure-sensitive automatic shut off, or special toothpaste formulated with potassium nitrate or strontium chloride to block or insulate nerves. A fluoride rinse or gel, or an oxalate compound applied to an exposed tooth root may reduce your tooth sensitivity. For a few weeks, as you wait for these measures to take effect, you’ll need to monitor what you eat and drink to avoid extreme temperatures.

At Perfect Smile Dental Spa, we had the opportunity to volunteer our professional dental care to the young adults of Healing Hurt People-Chicago. We closed our office for the day to provide thorough examinations, radiographs, and prophylactic cleanings for each young adult by our caring hygienists. We educated them on proper oral hygiene instructions and dental care. Dr. Dinkha was able to remove decay and provide resin-composite fillings for them as well that same day. The kids were so grateful and full of joy to be at our office. We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to bring a smile to these young adults’ faces while helping Healing Hurt People-Chicago. They were an amazing group and we hope to be able to help in any way we can in the future.

Restorative dentistry 60618We’re rough on our teeth. How many times have you chewed on ice or played sports without wearing a mouthguard? If you also skip semi-annual dental appointments and neglect a rigid homecare regimen of brushing and flossing, you compromise your smile even further. People damage or lose teeth every day from injury, disease, or decay. A damaged tooth can destroy oral function and cause pain, and a missing tooth will leave a gap in your smile. Your mouth must compensate for the lack of chewing power when a tooth is missing, so the chewing force may move to another part of the mouth. This causes the remaining teeth to shift out of place and further destroys your smile.

Root Canal Treatment
Incredibly hard enamel protects your teeth above the gum line so that you can bite and chew without pain or discomfort. Beneath the enamel, a more porous layer, dentin, extends to below the gum line. A soft interior portion called pulp contains vital nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissues. The pulp fills the root canals, and it is the source of life to the tooth.

Deep Cleaning
The office is great! I really enjoyed my whole experience here- from the TV and the hand wax to, the demo DVD of the procedure that I needed, I really felt comfortable here. Now, I am very very fearful of being “helpless” in the chair, don’t like injections and I need to be told exactly what is going on- I keep my eyes open for everything- and being put out is not good enough, but I was comfortable enough here to eventually get a deep cleaning and 5 fillings done in one visit. The laughing gas and some drowsy pill helped me be comfortable, but the real comfort was of knowing what he was doing.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral Surgery
As with any procedure we perform, your physical safety remains our top concern. To prepare for an appointment in which you will receive IV sedation, do not eat or drink anything for eight hours prior to your procedure, except for prescription medications, unless advised otherwise. While you are under sedation, we closely monitor blood pressure, breathing, and heart rate. After your dental work, we stop the IV and let you rest comfortably for 15 to 20 minutes before you leave our office. If necessary, we prescribe pain management medication after your visit, particularly after oral surgery. You must arrange to have a responsible adult drive you home from your appointment and remain with you until drowsiness wears off. You should be able to resume normal activities the day after the appointment.
Tooth Extractions
I was referred to the doctor more than 12 years ago (when he was at his humble Foster and Western location) because I had suffered a VERY traumatic (read: 5 days in the hospital/almost coulda died) wisdom tooth extraction at the hands of an Andersonville dentist (Raymond Hatland, if you’re wondering). He was really kind to me and never made me feel bad about being terrified. He has done numerous crowns, fillings, and a root canal for me and I’ve always felt I was in extremely capable hands. He calls me at home after a procedure to be sure I’m alright. His staff members are awesome–at least two of them (Michele and Irma) have been with him this whole time. I was a little put off by the “spa” aspect of the new place, but one paraffin treatment and massage later; I was convinced that this was a good move! And when I needed my other wisdom teeth out, he sent me to an oral surgeon. Even without insurance, I will always go to him. Hopefully one of those kids of his (that I pretty much helped put through college) will become a dentist, so when he retires I can still have a the doctor in my life.

Orthodontics
If the information we gather shows that a patient has improper jaw alignment, we will begin conservative therapy by creating a custom orthotic appliance to hold the patient’s jaw in proper alignment. The patient will wear the orthotic for three months to stabilize the bite. We can then determine whether the orthotic alleviated symptoms and if further therapy is necessary. A patient may need no more therapy, or he may wear the orthotic as maintenance for the rest of his life. Orthodontics, restoration of tooth arches, or bite adjustment may also be advised.
