An absolute catastrophe from start to finish. My family was visiting, and I wanted to bring them some place they would feel at home; I ended up feeling embarrassed and ashamed for leaving them with the feeling that the entire city of Chicago is like this.
To begin, we were told it would be a 25 minute wait. We decided to step outside AND told them we would be outside. Our table was given away in the matter of 5 minutes and had to wait even longer. Next, our waitress took 20 minutes to bring us our first round of drinks which were warm by the time they arrived. She then proceeded to leave for another 15 minutes before coming back to take our order. At which point, she kept interrupting us to tell other workers not to sit anyone else in her section making us feel unwanted. Our appetizer arrived approximately 40 minutes later.
While having been there over an hour at this point, we were never approached for refills. Our meals arrived at the 90 minute mark and were awful. The french fries were so hard they broke like No. 2 pencils, and the barbecue was like chewing shoe laces, but with less taste, and this was the food that was actually brought to us - my sister's entree never even arrived.
The manager approached us to apologize for the horrible service and said he would pay for a round of our drinks. After having been there for over 2 hours and 20 minutes our bill finally arrived and we saw that we had not been given a free round, but were double charged for a round. At this point I was completely furious and spoke to the manager about this who did absolutely nothing about it.
Our final bill was over $100; I understand I live in an expensive city, but if I'm paying for what I receive, I expect to receive SOMETHING. On top of that, it ruined any chance we had to do something for the rest of our night because it took us almost 3 hours to get out of there.
For a facility that is rated number one for ANYTHING, I cannot fathom the idea that it would be rated number one for anything other than WORST restaurant in the city. As for the one-star rating, I am forced to apply at least one star, but fully mean zero. I will not be back, and Jake Melnick's has embarrassed me.
