General Info: The Chesapeake Police Department preserves peace and reduces crime through the enforcement of local, state and federal laws. It operates patrol, K-9, civil disturbance, intelligence, animal control and records units. The department has a dispatch center that answers police, fire and medical emergency and nonemergency calls. The Chesapeake Police Department s investigations section conducts drug and vice investigations and training in drug detection. It maintains a traffic enforcement section that handles cases of accidents that cause the violations of traffic laws. The department s support bureau is comprised of the support section, information technology unit and public safety & emergency communication section. The Chesapeake Police Department supports AMBER Alert, which is an emergency alert system that helps recover abducted children. It also has a Special Weapons and Tactics (S.W.A.T.) team that conducts drug raids and deals with barricaded suspects and hostage situations. The department is located in Chesapeake, Va.
