Radiology
Dr. Burke trained as a Department resident from 1997-2001, serving as Chief Resident from 1999-2000. He completed a Vascular-Interventional Radiology fellowship in the Department in 2002. Apart from spending 2005-2006 in private practice in home state Arkansas, Dr. Burke has worked as an Assistant Professor of Radiology in the Department since completing his fellowship. In 2003, 2006 and 2007, Dr. Burke was named “America’s Top Radiologist” by Consumers Research Council of America. He received the Department’s Charles A. Bream Teaching Award (selected by residents) in 2004. He currently serves as Vice Chairman, Interventional Services; Division Chief, Interventional Radiology; Professor; Physician, UNC Center for Heart and Vascular Care.
Interventional Radiology
Peter Bream, Jr., MD, FSIR is a Clinical Professor in Radiology at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he serves as the program director for the Diagnostic Radiology Residency. He previously was at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN, where he served as the program director of the Interventional Radiology Fellowship and Interventional Radiology Residency program. He has research interests in central venous access, including new techniques, central venous occlusion, and specifically dialysis interventions. He has extensive experience in enteral access and treatment of enterocutaneous fistulae. He has lectured nationally on these topics. Check him out on twitter at @mcbreamy and on YouTube.

General Surgery
Dr. Commander received his BS, MS, and PhD degrees from the University of Florida and completed medical school at the University of North Carolina in 2014. He completed an internship in General Surgery and in 2020 became the first Integrated Interventional/Diagnostic Radiology Residency graduate at UNC. He is currently Assistant Professor of Radiology at UNC. In addition to dialysis access intervention, he has clinical interests in portal hypertension, embolization, and percutaneous ablation.
