Comprehensive Examination
At Paradise Animal Hospital, we want your pet to be as healthy and happy as possible. In our experience, one of the best ways to keep pets healthy is through regular wellness exams. Pets can be very good at hiding health issues, which may not be apparent until a disease is more advanced. During wellness evaluations, your veterinarian will perform a thorough examination on your pet to look for subtle abnormalities that might otherwise be missed. We recommend annual exams for pets that are young and healthy, and evaluations every six months for seniors and patients with health concerns.

Pain Management
Dr. Jennifer King is a graduate of St. George's University. In 2011, she completed her training to become a certified canine rehabilitation practitioner. She joined Paradise Animal Hospital in 2017 to continue to pursue her love of rehabilitation medicine. Currently she is training to become a Working Dog Practitioner and works regularly with Baltimore County K-9 unit. She visited Colorado in 2019 to continue our working relationship with Orthopets. Pain management is another of her interests and treating pain is always the first step with our rehabilitation patients!

Parvo: Parvo is a virus spread through the feces of an infected dog. Parvo can cause vomiting, bloody diarrhea, dehydration and death. It is highly contagious, and can remain in the environment for six months or longer.
Upper Respiratory Illness Treatment
Canine Influenza: Canine Influenza is a highly contagious virus that affects the respiratory system of dogs. Infection with the virus can result in a cough, nasal discharge, fever, pneumonia, or in some cases, death. Canine Influenza is spread between dogs through direct contact, aerosolized nasal secretions, and contact with contaminated objects or people.

Leptospirosis Treatment
Leptospirosis: Leptospirosis, or Lepto, is caused by a bacteria spread through the urine and feces of infected animals such as rats and raccoons. The bacteria, which can live in damp environments and standing water, can cause fever, liver disease, kidney failure, vomiting, diarrhea, and death in dogs as well as people.
Parvovirus Infection Treatment
Panleukopenia: Panleukopenia is a highly contagious disease caused by a feline parvovirus. In affected cats, the virus can severely deplete the white blood cell count causing infection and death. Kittens born to mothers infected with the disease are often born with severe neurologic problems. The virus is extremely stable in the environment, and can be transmitted through contaminated surfaces such as clothing, shoes, litter boxes, cages, and even insects, such as flies.
Feline Retro Virus Treatment
FeLV: Otherwise known as Feline Leukemia Virus, FeLV is spread through close contact with an infected cat through the saliva. Infection with the virus can greatly increase a cat’s risk of cancer, immune system suppression, bone marrow disorders, and organ dysfunction.

Kidney Disease Treatment
Acupuncture can be an invaluable tool in managing both chronic and acute pain, orthopedic issues, and neurologic issues, such as disk disease and lumbosacral stenosis in cats. However, the range of conditions that can be treated is broad and includes internal conditions such as chronic kidney failure and inflammatory disorders. Dr. Amy Twardzik is a certified veterinary medical acupuncturist (cVMA) and she completed her training through the Medical Acupuncture for Veterinarians program in Ft. Collins, Colorado.

Dental Surgery
Our cat is less than friendly with vets and techs, other places we have visited insist on gassing her before even taking the first look. Dr Thacker and her staff do everything in their power to treat our cat without the need to put her to sleep, which we appreciate so very much. They are very thorough, and have taken the time to understand our cats special needs. A year ago they performed dental surgery on her, it went without any issue and she is has been a much happier feline ever since. We'd recommend this practice to anyone looking for a vet that takes the time to know your animal, and thoroughly explain the diagnosis/treatment.
