Overall
Worth the long drive!

The review by "Ramsheadtavern" doesn't sound like Camp Tail-Waggers at all. Maybe they got confused about the name of the kennel they used. We've been making the long drive from Alexandria out to Camp Tail-Waggers since Lori first opened for business. Before we found Lori our neurotic dog would rub his nose until it bled when he was boarded, but at CT-W he has a great time! He starts getting excited when we begin to pass the horse farms on the way out, and we have a hard time getting him back in the car when we come pick him up. Lori has a real soft spot in her heart for all of her charges, and she treats themj like her own. The facilities are roomy, clean, and climate-controlled. I recommend Camp Tail-Waggers to friends all the time and will continue to do so.

We Love Camp Tail-Waggers!

We LOVE this kennel for our dog! There are other facilities much closer to us, but we drive 1 hour each way to take her to Camp Tail-Waggers. The owner clearly loves the animals left in her care, and over the years, she is not only an important service-provider for us and our dog, she has become a friend. We love the country environment, the sizable runs, and that the dogs get a chance to socialize together at various times during the day. The cost is reasonable and we've found that the peace of mind we get in return is more than worth it. Although our pet would always rather be with us, we feel this is the next best thing to home!

Camp Tail Waggers Kennel

Wow, what a great place! My dogs were well cared for, which wasn't an easy task as they are both special-needs dogs. They were treated like part of the family! They have never done well when I am away, usually not eating, etc., but this time was differrent. They were comfortable and enjoyed their time at Camp Tail Waggers so much that I am actually looking forward to my next vacation knowing that they will be in such good hands. Thanks again.

My dog had a unique temperament as he aged; he became a bit paranoid. Camp Tailwaggers was the only place HE wanted to go when we traveled. Truly, when I took him to drop off, he would jump out of the car and run around happily ~ meeting and greeting the owner and touring the "new scents" since his last visit. He never had this response when I had used other kennels before discovering Camp Tailwaggers. The owner was accomodating of his special disposition (he was tough to get out of his cage at times because of his attitude issues), and loved him while working well with him. I couldn't recommend this location more highly. If we ever got another pup (my dog has since passed away), I would most certainly return to Camp Tailwaggers - without hesitation or question.

Doggy care

I have used Camp Tail -Waggers several times. Everytime I take my pug in the car he knows he is going there and as soon as we pull in the drive he can not wait to get out of the car. They take Awesome care of him. I have asked them for advice on how I can care for me dog better and their advice is always very helpful. We Love Camp Tail - Waggers and I would not take him any where else.

Fun place for the pooches

There's a good outdoor space for the dogs to all get together and play. Lori is good at telling who gets along with whom, so there is rarely ever a problem between personalities. Lori also has a lot of knowledge of dog behavior, first aid treatment, etc. and I definitely feel safe boarding my dogs here.

I only trust her

My family owns three dogs and one of the dogs is like my baby girl. I only trust Lori with her. I know that in her hands my dog will be taken care of and that is a big thing for me. I love my dog with my whole heart and soul, and to have to leave her in a kennel is not only a big deal for me, but it is for my dog. I know that while my dog may miss me, Lori will take special care of her and give her all the attention that she normally gets from me on a daily basis. My family has gone to Camp TailWaggers for about four years now and we couldn't be any happier with the service that we receive. We only trust her with our dogs when we leave for long trips.

Camp Tail Waggers = truly happy pups!

Before boarding our dogs, we went to several boarding places, including our own vet, and found Camp Tail Waggers to be the best fit by far. No concrete runs, no cramped spaces, since they must be together and dogs get to play together throughout the day. After our first experience here, we've felt VERY comfortable always bringing our dogs back! Not only did the dogs seem completely happy and comfortable there, they were also very completely comfortable with everyone that worked there. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my babies when we're out of town, and have recommended to others as well. I'm confident my dogs will be very well taken care of here!

Camp Tailwaggers - My dogs love it!

We have been taking our two dogs (and sometimes our daughter's dog, as well) to Camp Tailwaggers for several years now. They have received nothing but tender, loving care while there. They come back to us better socialized than when we drop them off because they get to play and interact with other dogs while they are there, instead of spending their time in a run when we use to board them at the vet. When one of our dogs refused to eat, Lori (the owner) even spent extra time with her and would hand-feed her! I would not hesitate to recommend Camp Tailwaggers and have referred several of my friends there.

Don't go here

This "camp" is more like a concentration camp for dogs. The pens where they keep the dogs are dirty, the rooms are either freezing or sweltering, the dogs get to run in dry brown earth - no grass for them although there is plenty of grass on the facility, and the owner is absent for long periods of time during the day and depends on "friends" to watch over the dogs.

This is from personal experience, and the experiences of two others I subsequently met at another good camp nearby.

I'm sorry that "ramsheadtavern" wasn't pleased with the kennel. We work very hard to make this a place where the dogs are comfortable, safe and happy. As for the temperature, we keep the kennels comfortable for the dogs, and have never found it either "sweltering" or "freezing". As I am in the kennel throughout the day and late at night, I make sure it doesn't get too cold or hot. I don't wear a coat while I'm working with the dogs, so I can make sure the kennel stays comfortable. We have air conditioners and heat in both buildings. The outdoors area where the dogs run is heavily wooded, so the grass is sparce in some spots, however there is grass, and where the grass is sparce, we do our best to keep mulch. Although mulch washes away easily, rocks hurt the dog's feet, so we do our best to keep mulch down. The dogs have a wonderful time chasing each other around the trees and playing in the baby pool in the summer. Some of them LOVE to dig, so we are out there filling in holes and mowing on a regular basis. The runs are actually larger than standard, at 5ft by 4ft and are open and airy and cleaned regularly. I am the owner, and I am never away from the kennel for more than a few hours at a time, and if I'm not home, someone in my family -- 2 adult children and my husband -- are usually there to cover for me. On rare occasion during slow times, if I do get away,a bonded, liscensed, professional dog care provider fills in for me, as she does at other times during the year if needed, she is a friend and knows most of my doggie clients. She is very good with them. During busy times I occasionally employ someone to help with cleaning and dog care, but in general, the person taking care of your dog is me. The dogs get out 4 - 6 times per day, often for an extended period if the weather is nice, and their last outing is at 11:00 at night. Rarely do they go more than 3 - 4 hours between outings -- and then they're out for an hour or so. If the weather is NOT nice, then they get out more often for shorter periods to break up their day so they won't get bored. I am puzzled by ramsheadtavern's comment about "personal experience" as the only dogs who stayed at my kennel in January 2009 are long time customers who are still bringing their dogs here. I work very hard to be flexible for my clients. I offer late hours and do my best to work with people when they run into problems. As a solo-kennel operator and mother, I appreciate my client's flexibility with my hours as well. The dogs are happy here and are given a lot of personal attention. I realize that every kennel is not for every dog owner, and I'm sorry that Ramsheadtavern was so disappointed with Camp Tail-Waggers, but I have many, many clients who have been coming for years and new clients as well who are very happy with the care and attention their dogs receive while here.
