Overall

I called at noon needing a same-day appointment and the receptionist was extremely nice and helpful. When I told her today was my only shot, she went ahead tweaked the schedule to squeeze me in.

Once I arrived there was minimal paperwork, and I was seen promptly. Dr. Stiles was in the exam room to see me less than 5 minutes after I completed the various tests and he was very friendly and professional.

Overall
"2nd Rate Eye Care" is more like it!

Let me begin by saying that I am a patient of Dr. Philip Stiles at this location and he is wonderful. He always has been. I've been his patient for over 20 years (since 1991) when Mary (now deceased) was a technician in the glasses department. Boy, the quality of expertise and customer service has declined since then (as well as the surrounding external environment. But that's a different complaint).

I have never had a problem with having anything fixed or adjusted in previous years UNTIL YESTERDAY (8/10/10). In years passed, if I broke my glasses or needed my glasses adjusted, I could walk in without an appointment and get them fixed with satisfaction.

Yesterday, I walked into this establishment with my pair of broken glasses. One of the handles had popped off. All of the other women behind the front desk were busy on the phones and never acknowledged by presence so a technician unfamiliar to me asked if she could help me.

I showed her my glasses and asked if there was anything that could be done to re-attach the handle to the base of the glasses. She looked at them as if they had been crushed into a million pieces by a Humvee (like a Herculian task). I thought it was a simple job, but who am I? I had taken in several pairs before that were in way worse condition; and other eyecare professionals at this same place could fix them to exemplary standards.

Nevertheless, after looking puzzled and dumbfounded for a while, the technician told me she could put a plastic sleeve on it to hold the handle in place. I didn't know what that would look like. I had never had that done before; but since I had been coming to this particular First Eye Care location for over 20 years, I trusted that I would receive nothing less that acceptable because I had never received anything less. Therefore, I allowed her to take my glasses to another room to be "fixed."

A couple of minutes passed and the technician returned with my glasses. Have you ever broken a pair of glasses, can't immediately get to a place for them to be repaired so you hold them together with clear, scotch tape? That's how mine looked--VERY CHEAP! These are Eddie Bauer reading glasses that I bought at this location and they aren't cheap!!!

The technician had the nerve to explain to me that I needed to be very careful with my glasses as they were very delicate. "You probably won't be able to fold the handles to place your glasses back in the case," she said. I was like, WTF?!?!

I could've raised hell with her but why? It would be like arguing with a retarded child. Clearly, this particular tech was not very knowledgeable. She wasn't worth the argument.

Needless to say, the small plastic sleeve popped off in the parking lot before I reached my car. What an annoying experience that should have been quick and simple! I wish incompetent people wouldn't try to "help" others. I won't be coming back here for a while. I LOVE Dr. Stiles, but that drive from Collin County to Carrollton is too far of a drive for such nonsense. There are too many other "First Eye Cares" and other eye care professionals in this area.
