Behavioral Disorder Treatment
FVRCP: This vaccine is frequently called the feline distemper vaccine. FVRCP actually protects against feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, and panleukopenia. After the kitten series, this vaccine is usually given every 1 to 3 years. Talk to your veterinarian about the best protocol for your cat.

Bordetella (Kennel Cough): This vaccine is given every 6 to 12 months to dogs at risk. This vaccine protects against upper respiratory disease. Dogs most at risk are those who spend time with other dogs – dog parks, boarding kennels, doggy daycare, pet stores, groomers are all places where dogs are commonly exposed to upper respiratory infections. Dogs that are vaccinated can still get kennel cough, but the disease is usually much shorter and less severe. In severe cases, kennel cough can progress to pneumonia. If your dog has frequent exposure to other dogs please talk to your veterinarian about the Bordetella vaccine.

Leptospirosis Treatment
Leptospirosis: This is a vaccine recommended yearly for dogs that are considered at risk. Leptospirosis is a disease carried by wildlife that can be transmitted to dogs and people. Dogs that spend time outdoors may be at risk. Indoor only dogs do not need to be vaccinated against Leptospirosis. Talk to your veterinarian about your dog’s potential exposure and whether the lepto vaccine is the right choice.
Parvovirus Infection Treatment
DA2PP: Often called the distemper vaccine, the DA2PP vaccine is a combo vaccine protecting against canine distemper virus, parvovirus, parainfluenza, and adenovirus. After the puppy series, this vaccine is usually given every 1 to 3 years. Talk to your veterinarian about the best protocol for your dog.

The doctors and staff at Ocean View Veterinary Hospital take many precautions to reduce your pet’s surgical and anesthetic risk. All of our patients have a pre-surgical physical exam and blood work. Our patients are monitored throughout the anesthetic and recovery period by a dedicated technician and multiparameter monitoring equipment (temperature, EKG, pulse ox, EtCO2, blood pressure). All of our patients receive intravenous fluids throughout their procedure.

Ocean View Veterinary Hospital follows the American Heartworm Society guidelines for testing dogs and prevention. We recommend yearly heartworm testing and year round heartworm preventative. A heartworm test is a simple blood test. If your dog is not on heartworm preventative or has missed more than one month of prevention, he or she must be tested and must be negative in order to start heartworm prevention.

If your pet currently has a healthy mouth, our doctors and staff can teach you how to perform appropriate home care to maintain oral health. If you are noticing signs of dental disease in your pet, our veterinarians can design a plan to address the problem – this will usually include anesthesia (and associated pre-anesthetic work up), dental cleaning and polishing, dental x rays and any needed extractions or oral surgery. Once the dental disease is addressed, you will be taught how to maintain your pet’s clean, healthy mouth.
