Rick Abbott, MD is the Director of Surgical Neuro-Oncology at Children's Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM), Director of Function (a multidisciplinary clinic for the chronically disabled), and Professor of Clinical Neurological Surgery and Clinical Pediatrics at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine.Dr. Abbott received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX, where he also completed his residency. He completed his fellowship training at New York University Medical Center (now NYU Langone Health).Dr. Abbott has held positions on the Search Committee for Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the Committee for Appointments and Promotions to Professor at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He has served as a Director for The American Board of Pediatric Neurological Surgery, the Chairman of the Pediatric Section of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons/Congress of Neurosurgeons, the President of the American Society of Pediatric Neurosurgeons and the President of the International Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery.Dr. Abbott has been a reviewer and editor for the journals Neurosurgery® and Child's Nervous System and currently is the Editor-in-Chief of The ISPN Guide to Pediatric Neurosurgery. He has been The Bruce Hendrick Lecturer at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, The Sanat Bhagwati Lecturer for the Indian Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery, The Fred Epstein Lecturer for the International Society of Intraoperative Neurophysiology and The Kenneth Till Memorial Lecturer at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. He has spoken at regional, national and international scientific conferences in addition to participating as an instructor at national and international continuing educational courses for physicians on pediatric neurosurgical topics. He has authored journal articles on hydrocephalus and neuroendoscopy, including the management of complicated shunted hydrocephalus, the treatment of cerebral palsy, brachial plexus injuries in children and tumors in the nervous systems of children.
