These techniques are designed to use ultrasound or laser energy to liquefy the stubborn fat deposits allowing for easier removal.
MRI
Silicone implants offer a much more natural feel than saline implants and overall, they have a much more natural consistency. Silicone implants do require larger incisions, and this may impact the appearance of visible scarring. The main disadvantage of silicone is that, unlike saline, they are unlikely to collapse if ruptured. If a saline implant is ruptured, the saline is naturally absorbed by the body and the implant will collapse, making a rupture much more obvious to a patient. Silicone will not be reabsorbed by the body and will not be as obvious if ruptured or leaking. This can lead to anxiety about whether or not anything is wrong with the implant. An ultrasound or MRI can detect if there are any issues with a silicone implant. It is also important to note that there have been exhaustive studies conducted on the subject, and there is no convincing evidence of any health risks related to silicone gel implants.
Radiation Therapy
In some cases, a mastectomy or radiation therapy will leave insufficient tissue on the chest wall to cover and support a breast implant. Almost always, when a breast implant is used for breast reconstruction, a flap technique or tissue expansion is necessary to build up enough tissue in the breast to support the weight of the implant. A full examination prior to breast reconstruction will help determine whether a flap technique will be necessary to create the desired results for reconstructed breasts.

For the past 12 years, Dr. Swail has donated his surgical skills and services to indigent patients in third-world countries by embarking on surgical mission trips. He currently serves on the Board of Directors and is Chair of Surgical Services for Mending Faces, a charitable organization providing cleft lip and palate surgeries to children in the Philippines. He received their Humanitarian Award in 2007, and he remains dedicated to helping their cause.

Eyelid Surgery
Incisions for the eyelid surgery procedure are along natural folds and creases within the structure of the eyelid to reduce visible scarring. For an upper eyelid surgery, an incision is made within the natural crease of the eyelid, allowing for repositioning of fat deposits, tightening of muscles and tissue, and removal of any excess skin. The incision for a lower eyelid surgery can often be hidden inside of the lower eyelid, which is commonly referred to as a transconjunctival incision. In some cases, an incision will be made just below the lash line if excess skin needs to be removed.
Liposuction
Also known as suction assisted lipectomy (SAL), liposuction is a very popular and effective procedure designed to remove excess fat deposits that have not responded to exercise or diet. It is not designed to replace diet or exercise, and it is often more effective for patients who are not significantly overweight.

Rhinoplasty
The surgery may be done with a “closed” approach where all of the incisions are internal or with an “open” approach that includes a small incision across the skin at the base of the nose between the nostrils (the columella). In most cases, Dr. Swail recommends the use of an open rhinoplasty technique to ensure the best result, but he will perform closed rhinoplasty for the simplest nose surgeries. The procedure can be performed with general anesthesia or with a combination of sedation and local anesthesia.

Thigh Lift
A thigh lift corrects loose or sagging skin on the thigh that cannot be corrected by proper diet or exercise. Where exercise may fall short, a thigh lift helps patients achieve firmer, more youthful looking contours and a more proportional thigh appearance.
Face Lift
Also known as “liquid facelifts,” dermal fillers, or soft tissue fillers, can plump lips, enhance shallow contours, and soften facial creases and wrinkles. Soft tissue fillers can temporarily provide the benefits of a facelift without the down time or recovery time. All soft tissue filler treatments are temporary and will need to be repeated to maintain optimal results. Soft tissue fillers can enhance the overall appearance of the face and create a younger and fuller appearance.
Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty can rejuvenate puffy, sagging, or tired-looking eyes by removing excess fat, skin, and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids. While patients commonly choose this procedure for aesthetic purposes, drooping eyelids can cause vision impairment in more severe cases. In these instances, blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) can improve vision impairment caused by excess fat and tissue weighing the eyelid down.
Abdominoplasty
Also known as a tummy tuck, abdominoplasty is designed to correct loose or sagging skin on the abdomen. Due to pregnancy, weight fluctuation, age, or heredity, skin can lose its elasticity and become loose. The best candidates for this procedure have pockets of fat or loose skin that has not responded well to diet and exercise. A tummy tuck removes excess skin and fat deposits and while tightening the underlying muscles in the abdomen to ensure long-lasting results. By removing the excess skin, the overall skin elasticity can be restored to a more natural state, and the loose look and feel of the abdomen can be corrected. The result is a firm and more smoothly contoured abdomen. Abdominoplasty will likely leave a permanent scar stretching between the hips, although it should be low enough for a bikini to conceal it.
Nose Surgery
Rhinoplasty, or nose surgery, improves the overall proportion of the face and enhances facial harmony and self-confidence. Nose surgery can also be done to correct structural abnormalities that may impair breathing (septorhinoplasty). Rhinoplasty can change the nose size, width, profile, as well as the appearance of the tip and nostrils to create a more proportioned and desired appearance.
Body Lift
Body lift procedure is designed to remove excess skin and fat in order to create a smooth and firm body contour. A number of factors can cause the skin to lose elasticity including aging, pregnancy, sun damage, and genetic factors. All of these factors can contribute to loose or sagging skin around the abdomen, buttocks, thighs, and arms.

Otoplasty
Results following otoplasty are almost immediate in cases of correcting a protruding ear. In more extensive surgeries, results may appear in stages over time. Any scarring as a result of the procedure is generally hidden behind the ear or in the natural folds and creases of the ear.
Laparoscopic Surgery
Some umbilical hernias are congenital (patients are born with them) but most occur later in life. Surgery done through the belly button (laparoscopic surgery) causes some but the majority are the result of pregnancy. Normally the tissue of the abdominal wall stretches to allow room for the enlarged uterus during pregnancy. This can exacerbate the underlying weakness of the umbilicus and result in a hernia.
