        Boston Plan for Excellence, founded in 1984, is the primary partner of the Boston Public Schools in designing, piloting, refining, implementing, and institutionalizing elements of the district s reform initiative. The foundation supports Boston s public schools, and provided grants to teachers and college scholarships to graduates until the board of trustees approved reorganization. It has worked in close partnership with the district to refine professional development for all teachers and principals, and to improve literacy instruction in all classrooms. BPE directs Boston s in-district teacher preparation and licensure program, and serves as a core partner in the reorganization of the city s secondary schools. Its affiliate program, ACCESS, provides college scholarships to graduates of Boston s public schools. Boston Plan for Excellence is headquartered in Boston.
