Founded in 1884, the Metropolitan Birmingham YMCA coordinates a variety of child care, camping, leadership development and sports programs. The organization maintains more than 10 locations throughout Birmingham in Alabama. It offers a variety of after-school programs in partnerships with the Boy Scouts of America, Girls Scouts of America, and Mc Wane Science Center. The Metropolitan Birmingham YMCA operates a youth center that houses a climbing tower, teaching kitchen, dance studio, library, outdoor pool, computer lab, playground and basketball court. In addition, the organization maintains a camp that offers opportunities for hiking, kayaking, canoeing, campfire, and arts and crafts. The Metropolitan Birmingham YMCA provides swimming lessons to members of various age groups.
