Sinusitis
Balloon Sinuplasty is a breakthrough procedure that relieves the pain and pressure associated with chronic sinusitis. It is used by surgeons to safely and effectively treat chronic sinusitis patients who are not responding well to medications such as antibiotics, nasal steroids, or over‐the‐counter (OTC) drugs, and are seeking relief from uncomfortable and painful sinusitis symptoms.
Medical Weight Loss
: Generally, there are no food restrictions after surgery. The sooner the child eats and chews, the quicker the recovery. Tonsillectomy patients may be reluctant to eat because of post-operative pain; consequently, some weight loss may occur, which is gained back after a normal diet is resumed.
Ear Infections
If a child has an ear infection, it is most likely otitis media. This is an infection of the middle ear, which is the space deep to the ear drum. The Eustachian tube, which connects the nose to the middle ear space, helps to keep the middle ear ventilated and dry. Sometimes in children, the Eustachian tube does not function well, and fluid can accumulate in the middle ear. An infection can then develop within this fluid. A child may have acute recurring infections that resolve, or a chronic condition that does not respond to antibiotics.
Sleep Disorders
Unfortunately, there may be a time when medical therapy (antibiotics) fails to resolve the chronic tonsil infections that affect your child. In other cases, your child may have enlarged tonsils, causing loud snoring, upper airway obstruction, and other sleep disorders. The best treatment for both of these conditions may be the removal of the tonsils and adenoids.

Computed Tomography
An infection lasting longer than 10-12 weeks indicates a chronic infection. Initial management will include appropriate antibiotics, decongestants, and possibly steroids to reduce the inflammation associated with prolonged infection. In addition to treating the infection, a further workup to identify the source of the infection is indicated. This may include a CT scan of the sinuses and allergy testing. For some patients, sinus surgery to drain the infected sinuses may also be required. Over the past ten years, we have successfully treated hundreds of our sinus patients with the Balloon Sinuplasty technique. Dr. McCool is certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and is a fellow and member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. His practice focuses on hearing loss and hearing aids, sinus surgery including Balloon Sinuplasty, Pediatric ENT, thyroid and parotid gland surgery, and treatment for nasal allergies.

Allergies
The first step is to confirm a patient’s allergies through allergy testing. Then, a custom-mixed vial of drops is prepared for the patient. The patient takes drops under the tongue daily. The purpose of treatment is to give patients small doses of allergens in order to train the body not to react to its triggers. During the first four to six months, called the “escalation or build-up phase,” the dosage is gradually increased. After that, in the “maintenance phase,” the patient takes the same dose of drops each day. Although the full course of treatment can last years, many patients report improvement in their symptoms after just a few months.
