Emergency Care

“To date, (breast) screening MRI has been restricted to high-risk women for a variety of reasons... Abbreviated Breast MRI represents a promising new screening tool and may be the optimal supplemental imaging for average and intermediate risk women, especially in women with dense breasts. Given its high cancer detection rate, biennial screening with AB-MR could prove to be a more efficient and cost-effective supplement to mammography compared to annual whole breast screening ultrasound.” 2
MRI
After a CT or MRI scan is completed, a radiologist interprets the images and creates a report that is sent to the referring provider. Patients will receive the results from their referring provider which provides the opportunity for a discussion about how the results fit into the overall plan of care and also provide next steps. Results are often sent to referring providers within a business day but it can take providers some time to review the results and follow-up with patients as they are often extremely busy.
Radiology
Big Sky’s CT scanner is accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR) which means that the facility meets requirements for equipment, medical personnel and quality assurance. ACR Accreditation is considered the gold standard in medical imaging accreditation.

Mammography
Breast MRI is a useful tool for a number of patients. The first patient is one that has a known breast cancer (via mammography, etc.). Breast MRI is used pre-operatively to determine the extent of the disease and check for more extensive disease. Surgeons can use the data gathered from the MRI study to determine resection margins.
