Ophthalmology

Macular Degeneration
Macular degeneration, also known as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), is a condition that affects the small central area of the retina called the macula. Patients will gradually begin to lose their central eyesight, though often maintaining peripheral vision. While age is the main cause of AMD, genetics and lifestyle can also play a role in developing the condition. Dr. Parks may recommend preventative measures if you are at risk, and can provide several treatments to slow the progression of macula degeneration including laser therapies.
Cataracts
General ophthalmologists treat patients for eye conditions such as conjunctivitis, cataracts, glaucoma, and many other conditions related to the front part of the eye. Some ophthalmologists do additional medical training, complete specialized internships, and participate in sub-specialized residency programs. A retina specialist is an ophthalmologist that sub-specializes in the back part of the eye (the retina and the vitreous). Retina specialists treats patients for eye conditions such as, but not limited to: retinal detachments, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic or hypertensive retinopathy, ocular inflammatory conditions, AIDS-related disease, or retinal vein occlusions (strokes of the eye). Treatments for these conditions include medication, eye injections, laser treatment, and surgery. Dr. David Parks is a highly trained retina specialist and surgeon that may be able to help you.

Internal Medicine
Dr. Parks is a board-certified ophthalmologist who has been practicing in the Los Angeles area since 1995. He graduated from the prestigious Washington University School of Medicine. He then completed an internal medicine internship at University Hospital in Long Island and an ophthalmology residency at Krieger Eye Institute at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore. Following his academic training, he completed a two-year fellowship in ocular immunology and uveitis at the National Eye Institute in Maryland. Dr. Parks has since published articles for scientific journals and has presented at several national and international medical meetings.
