Criminal Defense
Brent, long recognized for his intellect and experience regarding criminal law and procedure, was appointed by the Justices of the Supreme Court of Arkansas to serve on its Committee on Criminal Practice. Originally appointed to the Committee in 2014, Brent was then reappointed to serve a second term by the Supreme Court with the appointment expiring in 2020.
DUI/DWI
Domestic battery, including a provision that misdemeanant batterers will be subject to felony liability for subsequent offenses, making causing someone’s death by a bomb or explosive device an aggravating circumstance subjecting that person to the death penalty, establishing an anti-stalking law, and making causing someone’s death by torture an aggravating circumstance subjecting that person to the death penalty; active in helping strengthen the laws for DWI and drug offenders.
Misdemeanors
During this time period Brent decided over 40,000 cases, and performed all duties of a District Court Judge including reviewing and issuing search and seizure and arrest warrants and presiding over bond hearings of individuals who had been arrested for crimes, including misdemeanor and felony offenses. Brent's service as District Court Judge was exemplary and he was fair to all who came before him.
Murder
Oral argument before the Supreme Court of Arkansas sitting at a special session at Arkansas Northeastern College, Blytheville, Arkansas, 4.8.2010; case was a capital murder case which occurred in Saline County, Arkansas, and Brent argued the case on behalf of the Appellant/Defendant.
Homicide
In addition to serving as Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney, Brent also served as a Special Prosecuting Attorney in various cases around the State of Arkansas where the local prosecutors had a conflict of interest. These cases included high profile cases and homicide cases. Brent received these appointments while working at the Arkansas Attorney General's Office and at the Saline County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.
