Kovacs, Whitney and Associates, Inc. (KWA) is a small business, twenty-four person firm founded in 1984 to provide MEP engineering consulting services to a broad base of clients in both the private sector and governmental agencies. KWA provides these services either as a direct service to the client or as part of an architectural team. KWA has also provided consulting engineering services as part of a design build team and MEP commissioning services. When KWA is engaged as the prime contractor, additional services as project management can be provided. As the project manager KWA can provide ancillary services like, architectural, hazmat, communications and structural with the use of consultants that have done many projects together. KWA is located in Baltimore City and does projects in the mid-Atlantic region. Even though KWA is a small business, KWA has on its staff nine Registered Professional Engineers. KWA provides complete mechanical and electrical services including; HVAC, Power Plant Design (HW, Steam, HTHW), Energy Conservation Studies and Implementation, Plumbing (domestic and specialized), Laboratory Design, Power Generation and Distribution, Lighting, Facility-wide Studies for Plant Optimization, Fire Protection, Fire Alarm and Detection, Nurse Call Systems, Paging Systems, Special Systems (MIS, communications, etc.), Emergency Generators and Related Distribution, UPS Systems, Construction Administration Services, Owner’s Representative and MEP Commissioning. KWA has personnel certified for LEED related projects and commissioning services. KWA has completed projects for such private clients as Verizon, National Aquarium in Baltimore, Union Hospital, Beebe Medical Center, Bon Secour Hospital, University of Maryland Health Systems, Johns Hopkins, Baltimore Gas and Electric and for such governmental clients as the Veterans Administration, National Naval Medical Center at Bethesda, the United States Naval Academy, the United States Air Force at Dover AFB and Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences at Bethesda. KWA also has experience with the design-build process.KWA designed the HVAC and the Plumbing for the Forty-Seven Million Dollar Wesley Brown Field House at the United States Naval Academy. The contractor for the project was Hensel Phelps Construction Company and the project was awarded the “2009 Commanders Award”, the highest design award given by NAVFAC.
