Primary Care
Your child should have a well child visit at the intervals listed below. We recommend that you call our office 3 months in advance to schedule an appointment with your child's primary care provider on the date that best fits your needs.

Colds, upper respiratory infections, and URIs are common terms we use to describe viral illnesses that cause nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, sore throat, fever, and cough. The fever usually lasts for 2-3 days, and the cough with congestion and runny nose may last for 5-10 days. The typical preschool-age child may experience 6-10 colds per year. Most colds resolve on their own with rest and fluids, but some may lead to ear infection, sinus infection, asthma attack, or other complications. If you are concerned about the possibility of one of these complications, please have your child seen in our office for an evaluation.

Labor and Delivery
Kat Kohler joined the Southwest Pediatrics family July of 2017 as a certified Family Nurse Practitioner. She has been in the medical field for 15 years; starting out as a Nurse Extern at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital and worked there for over 13 years in the Labor and Delivery unit where she was able to advance to being their Charge Nurse. Before nursing school Kat was a teacher for pre-school where her experiences with young children attributed her wonderful ability to interact & communicate with children effectively.

Nephrology
Dr. Nimisha Amin is a part time associate physician at Southwest Pediatrics. She is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in both general pediatrics and pediatric nephrology. With her sub-specialty training, Dr. Amin is able to provide services in both pediatric nephrology and general pediatrics within the same office.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
For ADD/ADHD prescriptions, you must call our office at least 3 - 5 days before you run out of medicine and speak to our triage staff. You will be required to answer several questions every month before a refill will be authorized, and once very 3 months you will be required to come for a follow-up visit with your physician. ADD/ADHD prescriptions must be picked up by a parent or legal guardian of the child. They cannot be called in to the pharmacy by law. Be prepared to present picture ID when picking up your child’s prescription.

Whether it’s the first time introducing solid foods, snack time, the night before your athlete’s big game, or the daily management of a chronic condition, we will help you navigate all the questions you have about what your child should be eating.

Children’s mental health is just as important as their physical health. We will work closely with you to assess your child’s emotional, behavioral and development needs and connect your child to the services to optimize their health. Because we believe pediatric mental and behavioral health is a fundamental component of your child’s care, we are working with Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles (CHLA) to bring a health Specialist to Southwest Pediatrics Team.
