Dental Care

Vaccination
Airlines require pet travelers to be vaccinated, and a health certificate from a licensed vet generally within a week of travel. Manchaca Village Veterinary Care can provide vaccination documentation and a health certificate for established clients. Please call us at 512-838-2273 with any questions you may have about getting your pet’s documentation ready.
Veterinary Ophthalmology
Age-related conditions we test for include: Diabetes, Anemia, Cardiac Arrhythmia, Abdominal Masses, Glaucoma (and other eye diseases), Urinary Tract Infection, and Kidney Disease.

Drop-offs are popular not just for scheduled surgeries and spa days, but also for sick visits, routine exams, tech visits, boosters etc.

Parasites Treatment and Control
We’ll ask you to bring in a sample when you schedule your first visit. We recommend immediately testing all new pets for intestinal parasites when they come into your home. We are specifically looking for: Giardia, Coccidiosis, Whipworms, Roundworms and Hookworms. If your pet is positive, we will make sure to get the right deworming medication onboard to treat them!
Pain Management
Whether pain is associated with an injury, surgical procedure or arthritis, you can be assured that pain control for your pet is of top priority. The doctors at Manchaca Village Veterinary Care employ preemptive pain management strategies for all surgical patients, and chronic pain can be managed utilizing multimodal analgesic techniques.
Skin Condition and Allergy Treatment
It is very unlikely that your puppy or kitten is under attack from allergies. If your new pet appears to be suffering from allergy-like symptoms, we recommend a comprehensive exam with a doctor to look for signs of upper respiratory infection, fleas, or mild skin infection.

Leptospirosis Treatment
Vaccines are determined by the lifestyle of your pet. We recommend all dogs be vaccinated with Rabies, Distemper/Parvo, Leptospirosis, and Bordetella. Our feline companions should be vaccinated with Rabies, FVRCP, and Feline Leukemia.

Arthritis Treatment
At home, Dr. Smith and his wife, Terri, have 2 dogs and 2 cats keeping them young. On the side, he is an avid fly fisherman and newly-minted blacksmith! His professional passions include internal medicine and diseases of the ear. Over the last few years, his interest in treating Osteoarthritis lead him to the study and practice of Stem Cell and PRP (protein rich plasma) therapy, making MVVC one of the few practices in Central Texas that offer it.

Kidney Disease Treatment
Rodent, snail and slug baits are often used to keep pests at bay. But if ingested, these poisons are extremely harmful to pets. They are highly toxic and, without immediate veterinary attention, can be fatal. Rodent baits typically can result in blood clotting disorders, brain swelling or kidney failure, depending on which type is used, while snail and slug baits can result in severe tremors or seizing.
Periodontal Disease Treatment
Bad breath is a sign of disease, often it may mean that oral disease is present in your pet’s mouth, not that their teeth are just dirty. Bad breath is often an indication of periodontal disease which lurks beneath the gums and can eat away at bone, oral tissue and tooth structure. Severe periodontal disease can also affect other organs, such as heart, liver and kidneys, as the disease progresses.

Our most common services include preventative care, pain control, senior care, cutting edge diagnostics such as digital x-rays and ultrasounds, blood work and urinalysis, vaccines, spays & neuters, lump removals, general surgery, microchipping, dental surgery, dental cleanings, stem cell therapy and more. And while we’re at it, we cover toe nail trimming, baths, and limited boarding too!
Veterinary Surgery
Dr. Might was raised in Bedford, Texas. He moved to Austin to attend the University of Texas at Austin as an undergraduate student, earning a bachelors in zoology and a minor in Spanish. He then attended Oklahoma State University for veterinary school. Early in his first year at Oklahoma State, Dr. Might found his calling for veterinary surgery, and then completed a 1-year rotating internship in Santa Rosa, California, followed by a surgical internship at Aspen Meadow Veterinary Specialists in Boulder, Colorado. These experiences were then followed by a three-year surgical residency at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington.
Laser Surgery
Most surgical procedures are done in the morning and the patient can go home the same day, thanks in part to the benefits of laser surgery.
Declawing
Laser surgery. Your pet will experience less bleeding and pain, and they will have a quicker recovery period. The laser replaces the scalpel and is commonly used for spays, neuters, declaws, tumor removals, eyelid and gingival surgery. This carbon dioxide laser produces an invisible beam of light that can remove one precise layer of tissue at a time. This can reduce your pet’s postoperative recovery time, leading to a quicker return to normal activities.
Spaying and Neutering
Spaying/Neutering your pet not only helps control the pet population, it also helps to reduce the chances of prostate enlargement and certain types of cancer including testicular, uterine, ovarian and mammary cancer. Manchaca Village Veterinary Care proudly offers Laser Surgery as an option for these procedures. Laser Surgery reduces the amount pain in recovery and bleeding during surgery.

WELLNESS ULTRASOUND SCANS are the popular choice for owners of senior pets, which we use to identify internal abnormalities before they become destructive or unmanageable. Early detection is key to longer life and lower healthcare costs. After the age of 6, your pet has reached middle age–a time in their lives when internal abnormalities are more likely to develop. Also, knowing that some breeds are susceptible to certain conditions, a preventative scan is time well spent.
