Overall
Great BBQ, Great Staff

I have eaten here many times and the food quality never fails me. They offer almost 20 choices of sides and even a vegetarian plate.

The brisket is always moist and tender regardless of the choice of lean or crown. The sausage has just enough kick to it and it is an old family recipe not store bought. The chicken and St. Louis style Pork ribs are almost fall off the bone tender. The sides are all made fresh daily. Sauce has two choices, the original and the spicy (made with ground chipotle peppers) has just a little bit of zip but it, like the sausage, is not one of those "burn all day" for that you will need to hit the condiment bar and pile on the onions, Pico-de-Gallo, and jalapenos.

Oh yes and Texas toast and free refills on a 32 cup on tea, sweet tea and fountain sodas.

As a final note, they will cater for parties of 15 or more.

Worth the drive but there are 4 in Austin and 1 in Round Rock.

Overall
And my son loves the train

These guys at the Great Hills Trail store are by far the best when it comes to taking care of the families that come in. They are very attentive and remember peoples names and what we like to eat. My kids LOVE the mac-n-cheese, I like it but would love to have sone real bacon crumbled up in it. Sean and his staff are super, they food is the best in Austin , I think and have eaten at them all, North, South, East and West in Austin. I will always go out of my way for Pokejo's but lucky for me I live near here.

THE BEST LOCAL AUSTIN BBQ TRADITION: A BRISKET, TWO GUYS AND A LOTTA SMOKE. It ain’t just legend, there is indeed a Joe, and there was once a man called Porky. And one night back in 1970-something, after an evening out over beers and so-so barbecue at a well-established, not-to-be named local barbecue joint, they declared that they could do better. And they decided Porky-Jo’s didn’t roll off the tongue quite like PoK-e-Jo’s! So after much experimenting with rubs and smoke and recipes and taste testings, these two friends collaborated with then recent UT graduate, and now co-owner Doug, and in June of 1979, they boldly opened up the very first PoK-e-Jo’s out on North Burnet road. To their utter delight, it quickly became a neighborhood favorite providing the top BBQ in Austin. Like all good things, word got around, and since that first restaurant, PoK-e-Jo’s has grown right along with Austin. Now Porky’s son Danny runs the business along with Doug, both sticking with the same idea that started the whole dang business: Do it better.THE BEST LOCAL AUSTIN BBQ TRADITION: A BRISKET, TWO GUYS AND A LOTTA SMOKE.
