Accused of neglect because of policy dispute

Tub Time accused us of neglect only after a dispute about a policy change.....
For the past two + years, I have brought my shih-tzu in for grooming services from this local salon. I have always been satisfied with the service and their quick turn-around time. My shih-tzu plays outside with our boxer a lot and gets matted after it rains or snows. This last time we brought her in, we told them she was in pretty bad condition. When they called to let us know she was ready, they said she was in heat and bled all over the groomer, or in this case, the owner.
When I picked up my dog a few minutes later, the desk clerk told me the price and about the extra cost due to the condition and the fact that she was in heat. I told them that was fine and I began to write out a check. Something I have done everytime I brought in my dog. The owner came over and said she my dog was in heat and I said, "She wasnt in heat before I brought her."(My concern was we waited too long and it caused stress for my dog and that caused her to go into heat) The owner replied, "She wasnt?! Well she is bleeding all over the place." I responded, "Well, I didnt know she was in heat, otherwise I wouldn't have brought her over." As I was saying this, the owner walked away and as she left, she told the clerk that I needed to pay with cash or credit. I asked if there was a policy change. The clerk walked over and asked her my question (obvious she wasnt aware of why I couldnt write a check). She responded to the clerk (I'm assuming she didnt realize I heard), "I'm not accepting a check from someone who's accusing me of putting their dog in heat." The clerk chose not to relay this statement but once again said they would only accept cash or credit.
I asked the owner again if there was a policy change, face to face, when she allowed me to approach the door where she was still finishing the final touches on my dog. She then made up the "policy change", that there have been bad checks written in the past and she wasnt allowing any more from inconsistent customers. I left, got cash and when while I was out, my husband called and asked if they take checks. The front desk clerk said yes, but only if you are a returning customer. Caught in a her lie, the owner tried once again to convince us that she changed her policy.
Obviously, she is the owner and has every right to change the policy but that was not the issue. My issue was she changed it because she said I was accusing her of something.
When I returned, she told me she filed a complaint with the Humane Society for neglect and that my husband tried to 'strong arm her' into letting us write a check.
Now, as a dog lover, I would hope this woman filed neglect charges when she felt there was a true issue of neglect and NOT because she was unhappy with the customer. Before I left, I asked if I could have a print out of the pricing. The owner told me, "No. Because I do what I want, when I want." She told me they wont be accepting us as a customers anymore and said, "You can leave now. Go cry!"
I will leave it for you to decide if this is the type of person you would like to do business with. It is very unfortunate that all of this came about because I said, "She wasnt in heat when we brought her."

I have been dropping my dog off her for the past 2 yrs. She is very good with my doggie and the prices are reasonable.
