Overall
Terrible. Filthy, poorly maintained vehicle.

I'd give 0 stars if I could.

For our camping trip with friends over Memorial Day weekend we chose to rent a 26 foot C-Class with Chambers Road RV (CRRV), as I was assured by a staff member that their vehicles are newer and kept in top condition. After seeing photos on their website I felt confident that this was the right choice – My first mistake!

On arrival, the RV looked OK from the outside but as we entered, the interior had this awful smell. They told us we were the first renters this season so I guess we attributed the smell to this, although it was definitely more of a cigarette smell than musty. Besides, what to do? No other RVs were available, it was a holiday weekend and our friends were already at the campground. During our tour we were definitely less than impressed with the shoddy condition of the interior – check out my photos to see what CRRV are actually renting out. The photos on their website are VERY misleading. On carpeted areas they have this nasty plastic covering, which is cracked, filthy, and in places, stuck down with packing tape. Drawers and cupboards were broken and scratched and blinds were torn. This was a 2006 model and definitely didn’t meet my expectation of the ‘luxury’ vehicle I’d been lead to believe we’d be renting.

Not even an hour into our drive I saw something trailing on the side of the RV. We pulled over to find the white seal for the entry door had come off and was now being held on by only two screws. After fixing this we continued on, accompanied by tons of bangs and squeaks. Near our destination we stopped to top up on fuel. A thunderstorm was nearby and while refueling, a strong gust of wind blew something in front of us. We thought it was one of the gas station signs, however, I had a sneaking suspicion it might be something from the RV and sure enough after checking, we realized the bathroom roof vent had been blown off. My husband went on the roof to check the damage to find that most of the vents were old and extremely brittle. Not wanting to be held responsible I called CRRV, only to be told that as the vehicle was in our position we would be responsible for paying to replace the vent. I don’t expect to be held responsible for a badly maintained vehicle.

We arrived at the campground and grabbed a beer from our fridge, only to find that it wasn’t at all cold. Now the fridge wasn’t working! Instead of being able to relax with friends and enjoy the start of our vacation, we were now on the phone for over an hour trying to get the fridge working. The CRRV rep couldn’t figure it out and ended up telling us to read the manual!! I was SERIOUSLY pee’d off.

With our terrible experiences we chose to come home a day early. Fortunately my husband tried to start the vehicle a few hours before we were due to leave and guess what? Flat battery! Despite running the generator for a couple of hours the engine still wouldn’t start. Finally, with the help of a park ranger we jump started the RV and departed. We spent a couple of hours cleaning the RV at home (now much cleaner than when we’d picked it up) and went to start it to return it to CRRV. Battery was dead again! By this time we were done playing mechanic so called the Roadside Assistance number we’d been given, only to find that CRRV’s coverage with them had EXPIRED a full 2 YEARS previously, so we weren’t even covered! Completely fed up we called the towing company associated with CRRV and told them to come and pick it up.

A tough lesson learned and needless to say, we won’t EVER be renting from CRRV again. One final point… they misrecorded the departure mileage by over 800 miles in their favor! Please, save yourselves the aggravation and don’t do business with this company.
