Male Infertility
Many people think infertility is the result of "female problems." However, male infertility is a factor for about 50% of people who have unsuccessfully tried to have children. Infertility means that a couple is unable to have (conceive) a child after trying for a year or longer with frequent sexual intercourse without contraception.
Emergency Care
The first symptoms of ketoacidosis include thirst, dry mouth, frequent urination, high blood glucose levels, and high levels of ketones in the urine. These symptoms are followed by dry or flushed skin; continual tiredness; nausea, abdominal pain, or vomiting; difficulty breathing; impaired attention span or confusion; and fruity smelling breath. If you have any of the symptoms contact your doctor immediately; call emergency services, usually 911; or go to the nearest emergency room. Treatment for ketoacidosis usually involves a hospital stay.

She received her bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Georgia and a master’s degree from Georgia State University. She earned her medical degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Emory University School of Medicine here in Atlanta, Georgia.
Endometriosis
There are several other causes of menorrhagia including uterine polyps, ovarian cysts, ovary dysfunction, intrauterine device (IUD), and adenomyosis. Chemotherapy, blood thinning medication, or anti-inflammatory medication may cause menorrhagia. Some medical conditions may increase the risk of menorrhagia, including pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), thyroid disorders, endometriosis, lupus, liver disease, kidney disease, blood disorders, and certain types of cancer.
Pregnancy
All pregnancies have some degree of risk, but high-risk pregnancies carry more risks to the mother and developing baby. A pregnancy may be termed high-risk if you have a medical condition or if you develop one during pregnancy. All pregnancies in women over the age of 35 are classified as high-risk. With careful medical monitoring and management, most women with high-risk pregnancy deliver healthy babies. It is very important to follow your doctor’s instructions and attend all of your appointments.
Labor and Delivery
Tubal ligation is usually an outpatient procedure that may be performed at a hospital or outpatient surgery center. You will be sedated with general anesthesia and will need to have someone else drive you home following your surgery. Tubal ligation can also be done immediately following a cesarean section or vaginal childbirth.

Ovarian Cancer
A hysterectomy may be advised as a treatment for endometrial (uterine) cancer, pre-cervical cancer, cervical cancer, or ovarian cancer. It may also be used to treat uterine fibroids, uterine prolapse, endometriosis, and severe chronic bleeding that does not respond to other types of treatments.
Cervical Cancer
Women over 65 do not need a Pap smear unless there is a history of two or three abnormal test results in the last 5 to 10 years, or if there is a history of dysplasia or cervical cancer.
Colon Cancer
The bone marrow may not be able to produce and replace red blood cells fast enough if a large amount of blood is lost due to bleeding. Substantial blood loss can result from serious traumatic accidents or from complications from surgery or childbirth. Anemia can result if a small amount of blood is lost over a long period of time. This may occur in females with heavy menstrual periods and people with inflammatory bowel disease or colon cancer.

Hysterectomy
A hysterectomy is a common surgical procedure that is used to remove the uterus. It may be recommended to treat cancer or uterine conditions that do not respond to other types of treatment. Once a hysterectomy is performed, a woman can no longer become pregnant.
Endometrial Ablation
Endometrial ablation uses high energy to permanently destroy the lining of the uterus. Endometrial resection uses an electrosurgical wire loop to remove the uterine lining. These two options should be used by women who are certain that they do not want to have children. Both endometrial ablation and endometrial resection can cause serious complications to the mother and fetus if pregnancy should occur.
