Glaucoma
This outpatient procedure is designed to reduce excess fluid pressure in the eye caused by glaucoma. A laser is used to treat the trabecular meshwork, the area of the eye responsible for fluid drainage. The procedure is usually completed within 10 minutes.
Ophthalmology
Is a member of the vitreoretinal service at Atlanta Eye Consultants. Born in Boston, MA but raised here in Atlanta, GA, his undergraduate education was at Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia where he received a degree in Molecular Biology, and graduated with honors in 2003. He went to medical school at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, graduating in 2007. His preliminary medicine internship was at Virginia Commonwealth University Health System where he was a recipient of the Arnold Gold Award for Humanism and Teaching in Medicine. He completed an Ophthalmology Residency at the Virginia Commonwealth University Department of Ophthalmology, serving as Chief Resident in his final year. Additional subspecialty training in medical and surgical disease of the retina was undertaken at the Cincinnati Eye Institute associated with University of Cincinnati Department of Ophthalmology.

Cataracts
Dr. Burnett specializes in diseases and surgery of the cornea, including corneal transplants. She also has an extensive practice involving care of cataracts and glaucoma, including intraocular lens implantation, contact lens problems, keratoconus, chronic dry eye and laser surgery.
Cataract Surgery
This surgery is used to remove a cataract. During the procedure, the cloudy lens in your eye is replaced with an artificial lens that will let you see clearly. This procedure is sometimes called "no-needle, no-stitch" cataract surgery. It's quick, painless, and you can go home the same day.

In addition he completed his residency in ophthalmology, in the Department of Ophthalmology at the prestigious Mayo Clinic, in Rochester, Minnesota in 1979. He received the first Mayo Clinic Ophthalmic Alumni Award in 1979, for excellence including research. Dr. Wilkes then completed his fellowship in surgery and diseases of the retina and vitreous, Departments of Ophthalmology, Harvard University, Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in 1981. In addition he served on the Staff of the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in prior to relocating to Atlanta to establish Atlanta eye Consultants, PC. Dr. Wilkes is a vitreoretinal surgeon who specializes in treating diseases and surgery of the retina and vitreous including diabetic retinopathy. He has published numerous articles in scientific ophthalmology journals and he was the principal investigator of the first statewide diabetic retinopathy screening study performed in the United States, here in Georgia. In addition he is a member of the exclusive American Society of Retina Specialists. He has given numerous presentations locally, nationally, and internationally on retinal diseases including surgery, including Paris, France, and Montreal, Canada.
