Overall
I know it can be hard to find ...

I know it can be hard to find a good child psychiatrist, especially one that accepts specific insurances, but DO NOT take your child here. Due to an insurance change we had to find a new doctor. This man refused to write prescriptions for the meds my son had been taking for more than a year, and that work better than anything else he has taken. We waited over an hour to be called back for our first (and LAST) appointment with him. He spent twenty minutes explaining to me why my son shouldn't be taking the meds he's on. During this time he refused to allow my son to have anything to distract him, forcing him to sit still and listen to our "conversation." As a 10 year old with Asperger's and ADHD, this was nearly impossible. Not only was he insistent that my son pay attention to him, but he was also very intolerant and demeaning to him when he was unable to be still or opay attention. The only thing that held his attention was the doctor's REPEATED insistence that his meds could cause his death. WHAT KIND OF DOCTOR TELLS A 10 YEAR OLD THAT THEIR MEDS CAN KILL THEM?!?!?!?!?!?!!?

We went through all of this (an hour and 45 minutes at this point) only for him to tell me he had decided he wasn't comfortable refilling my son's current meds, and that we needed to select one of the other meds he had recommended in order for him to continue our care. ALL of the meds he recommended were new on the market, and being pushed by pharmaceutical reps. Yes, he had samples....which means he was likely getting kickbacks. NOTE: He NEVER asked for my son's records or a history of diagnoses.

A psychiatrist should be less concerned about what will fill his pocket and more interested in what works for the patient.
