What I want to try to do for you, is to prove to you this: you may think your only problem is your feet. It is not. Plantar fasciitis is ALWAYS a distal manifestation of a proximal problem. MD, allopathic, biochemical and statistical medicine will never guarantee such an absolute certainty as always, never, etc. The narrowest, most closed minded of MDs will roll their eyeballs at me and laugh at us, but let me tell you - I do charge alot, what I charge and patients will gladly pay me for is getting results. Carpal tunnel syndrome - standard treatment is opening up the tunnel surgically. Stepping back to look at the big picture (the forest, not the trees), the tunnel is made of living connective tissue that has elasticity, plasticity and pliability. With knowledge of the anatomy of the wrist, I can open up the tunnel a few millimeters just enough to decompress the nerve; within a few days, wrist swelling diminishes, tenderness is reduced and hair return to the skin surface. Imagine that.

Kathy has chronic R sinus headaches and neck pain. Putting her hair in a ponytail or wearing a towel over her could not comprehend and consequently brushed off); All her symptoms resolved w/treatment. Note her R face and cheek are smaller and compressed before treatment. One hour later her face is fuller and symmetrical. kathy has been on Synthroid x 10yrs b/c her endocrinologist told her her thyroid was 'dead.' When I first met her I told her that, theoretically, treating her head and neck should someday, 'wake up her thyroid.' 1.5 yrs later, she is on bioidentical hormones and her synthroid. Her thyroid ultrasound found "inflammation." Her regular ENDO doc insists she stay on 100mcg of synthroid. She, her bioidentical doctor and I, all agree to ignore the other doctor.
MRI
Cheryl is a 35 yr old woman who found me from a friend's referral. She had been going to our local pain management MD for 3yrs for neck and back pain, and to inject a ‘facet’ in her back. In the last 6months she started to develop leg pain. She went to a local surgeon. He did a test for blood clots, which were negative. He ordered an MRI. She never went back to him because she felt he acted as if she was seeking narcotics from him. I got the results and she was starting to develop a herniation in her disc (which explains the leg pain). At the spot on her back where she was getting steroid injections, she had a COMPRESSION FRACTURE. When I gave her the news, she cried. She was happy to have a broken bone in her back, because it was real and she and her pain were validated. She had seen a chiropractor once for her neck pain. This person did not warn her and did a fast ‘crack.’ She had more pain going out of that office than coming in. The chiropractor said to her when she complained about the pain, “Well, that wasn’t supposed to hurt.” ????!!!! It took 5 sessions over the course of 1.5months and she is now off narcotics. I just shake my head when I think about this poor woman and what she has been through.

Whiplash
Whiplash - traumatically induced spasms in the back and neck from a high velocity impact cannot be undone by range of motion exercises, by someone yanking on these irritated muscles. When you get a cramp in your leg, what do you do? If you lay still and wait for it to pass, it will eventually calm down. What would happen if someone yanked on it? You would hurt terribly; so why would you let someone yank on your neck, much less "massage" it? I figure out where physical the strains are locked and undo them gently.
Bunion Surgery
I only wish I'd known about OMT before submitting to bunion surgery. My foot now has problems that even you aren't able to correct. And the sad part about it is that you probably would have been able to correct the bunion without the damage caused by my surgery. Fortunately, you were able to do 2 things to improve my foot. One thing you were able to do was to relieve the "too tightly wound rubber band" feeling inside my big toe and somehow give me the feeling back in the skin of my big toe. It had been numb ever since the surgery five years ago. It doesn't sound like a big thing, but it felt like I had someone else's toe stuck on my foot. It was weird and awkward and I really hated it. I feel more "normal" now being able to feel with my big toe again.

What deviant mind came up with the idea that taking a scalpel to a foot or toe can cure a problem of pain? (probably the same person who said, diabetic sores and gangrene? lets chop it off. of course this person was not responsible for managing the diabetes. he just had the job of chopping off the rotting toe. but rotting toes were few and far between and he could not feed his family with an occasional toe chopping. and a new business blossomed). In our profession, of the approxiamately 65,000 DOs, only 3-5% of us practice osteopathy as it was originally intended by Dr. Still. DO's are physicians and surgeons licensed by the state to practice in any field of medicine. Although DO schools require 500 extra hours of anatomy and 2yrs of musculoskeletal labs with inculcation of 'techniques,' when I treat a patient, actual use of 'technique' is only about 5%. The rest is pure, powerful osteopathy, finding the strains, figuring the patient's problems out, and undoing the strains. It is detective work that takes time. Anything worth doing, is worth the time in order to do it right. No patient will ever permanently respond to cookbook recipes of 'technique.' This is what makes Osteopathy more powerful than any other treatment modality like physical therapy, craniosacral therapy, massage, acupuncture, Reiki, prolotherapy, and chiropractic. This is why we get lasting results and patients feel "amazing" differences after our subtle, high precision treatments. Osteopathy is pure anatomy, physiology, embryology, and diagnosing and treating through palpation. All this knowledge can only be acquired through a medical school background. It is not easy, quick work, but it is beautiful and profound work.
