Papa Joe's Oyster Bar & Grill

I have a trip planned for next month and was looking for a bar that has a dart board. According to Yelp this establishment does. I called and spoke to a woman who was completely ignorant and rude and actually hung up on me saying "I don't know and we're closed anyhow". the website states they close at 10:00pm, I placed my call at 9:45pm!. Wow, this place it somewhat well rated for their food, but with this type of "lack" of customer service I am more than a little apprehensive to give them my business. Wow is all I have to say.

We wandered into papa joes a couple years ago and the oysters were by far better than any others. You order a dozen and they usefully throw a few extras in when siting at the bar. Oysters were very large and the beer was cold...a definite stop if in the area!

We wouldn't have found this place if we hadn't talked to the locals. They don't advertise-- they don't need to. If you're looking for a fine dining atmosphere, this isn't it. If you're looking for the best oysters in the country, stop here. It was $40 for the two of us, tip included, and that was with a beer and an appetizer-- not expensive at all in my book. The patio seeting is all windows right out on the docks, air conditioned, and perfect. If you sit at the bar, you get to watch the staff shuck the oysters in front of you... they're on ice lining the entire length of the bar.



If you decide to go raw, and you're from someplace where raw oysters just don't come around, the "right" way to do it is to drop the oyster on a saltine cracker and give it a little hot sauce. Yum.
