Taverna Cretekou

This place is a nice place. But I love lamb and their lamb is not as good as it use to be. They had better lamb last year. I believe they buy their lamb from Resturant depot .. It's not very quality.

On vacation in Alexandria, we decided to give this place a try. To sum up my review, save your money and pick another quality eatery in Alexandria to spend your vacation dollars. The Greek food was mediocre, at best, and the portions were very small for the price. We had a big meal, but it came at a hefty price. If you want fantastic Greek food at a great price, visit Astoria, Queens on your next trip to New York City. As for Greek food in Alexandria, VA, caveat emptor.

New Year’s Eve at Taverna was a true Rip Off! I persoanly had gotten into the fixed price menus of other restaurants in Alexandria, but this place has made me almost not wanting to go back to Alexandria for anything. I think they took advantage of their location to ripp off the customers.



The five of us who misinformedly got into the supposedly $49.99 per person’s fixed price dinner menu on New Year’s Eve, agreed afterward that we felt we were robbed.



Shortly after being seated we found out that the price was actually $79.99 per person, and we were assured that we would have such a great time that was going to worth that price.



The fixed menu came. First a CUP of soup. The soup seemed like it was pieces of chicken in some sort of grain. Some of us didn’t like it at all because it was sour. Then the salad came. A rather small plate with some mixed greens that you can buy at any store, some feta cheese on top, and just 1 olive, with a sour dressing on top. But the worst was that the mixed green had some old and spoiled pieces in it. Then came time for the entrée. We had a few choices to choose from. We ordered different things, the fish, the lamb, and the sampler. All their food was produced in the cheapest, easeast way. The fish plate had a small whole fish (seemd like trout), and some vegatables (a few pieces of potatos, and two pieces of broccoli and carrot), with some gravy on top. And that was IT! Nothing else to garnish or accompany that meal. The lamb dish had a piece of lamb shank with a big bone, and the exact same vegetable and gravy on top. And the sampler had a few pieces of samples and again the exact vegetables aside. That was all for the entrée.



We finished and had a few choices for the dessert to chose from. One choice was a tiny bowl of rice pudding with shakes of cinnamon on it. Another was a lemon something, it was a small piece of rather tough (seemed not fresh at all) lemony cake in a saucer. You would think that at least that little piece of dessert should be fresh and tasty, in a bigger plate and in more presentable way. It was as simple and cheap as you could ever imagine.



And the end was, giving people some typical paper hats and stuff for the new year. And tiny little galsses that were going to be filled with some knind of cheap champeane, which we didn’t care to stay for in that restaurnat.



So, you decide for yourself! If you think that a cup of soup, a small plate of untasty old salad, a lousy entrée, a little dessert, and a tiny galss of champagne is worth $79.99 per person, PLUS tax and tip. Then Taverna Cretekou is the place.
