Premarital Agreement
Only property currently in existence can be converted from separate property into community property. Unlike a premarital agreement or partition or exchange agreement, parties cannot agree to convert separate property to be acquired in the future into community property.
The Business Transactions & Tax Section provides a wide range of corporate services to the firm’s business clients, which range from entrepreneurial start-up companies to mature publicly held corporations. The firm’s business representation includes mergers and acquisitions, private securities offerings, business entity structure and organization, equity and debt financing transactions, syndications, tax planning, business dispositions, and copyright and trademark registrations.
Business Disputes
Our business litigation section adeptly navigates the most significant and complex disputes encountered by a business. In the face of these disputes, our lawyers have successfully defended matters seeking damages in excess of $100,000,000, and have won multiple judgments for clients in excess of $1,000,000. These cases often require unique, intricate, and nuanced approaches. Formulaic methodologies in this arena are usually counterproductive. Instead, our lawyers apply a rigorous legal and factual analysis to unsnarl the dispute and fashion a successful case or an acceptable resolution. Despite their affinity for the sophisticated, our seasoned trial lawyers quickly resolve standard business disputes where a premium is placed on efficiency.
Business Transactions
We are lawyers with a personal mission of growth and success for our clients and our community. From bet-the-company litigation to the most complex business transactions, we practice law with flexibility and entrepreneurial zeal.

Geary, Porter & Donovan is one of the most respected law firms in the State of Texas for representation of property owners in real estate valuation litigation. Attorneys with the firm have experience in property tax and eminent domain litigation dating back to the early 1980’s. The firm has more than ten lawyers whose primary focus is representing property owners in valuation disputes in district courts and county courts at law.
Effective estate planning representation requires a blend of legal knowledge and individualized service. The attorneys with the firm counsel clients with respect to the intricacies of federal estate and gift taxes in order to help them assess and minimize the impact of these taxes during their lifetime and in passing wealth to future generations or charitable beneficiaries.
Wills
Trusts
In addition, the firm regularly assists clients in the administration of trusts and estates, the probate of wills and the handling of related controversies. Attorneys also provide counsel on income tax issues for trusts and estates, and represent corporate and individual executors and trustees.
In property tax matters, our attorneys represent owners to ensure fair and equitable allocation and assessment of the property tax burden. This representation involves not only achieving the accurate and equitable valuation and taxation of an owner’s property, but also includes providing advice and counsel to tax consultants in navigating the many complexities and uncertainties of the Texas Property Tax Code.
