Neurodiagnostic TEX is committed to deliver the best in intraoperative neurophysiologic testing, regardless of patient age. Our technologists have undergone extensive age specific training and have obtained invaluable experience in pediatrics. So whether the patient is you or your child, we can help.
Evoked potential tests are those that test the nerves and spinal cord. These tests are often times performed in conjunction with imaging studies. The imaging studies take a picture and EPs show the physiological function of these structures. Often times pathology not seen on imaging studies will be revealed with EPs. Indications would include multiple sclerosis, hearing/vision screening in infants and emotional vs. physical trauma. Testing modalities include visual evoked potentials (VER), brainstem auditory evoked potentials (BSER) and somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEP). These studies can also be performed in surgery to protect structures at risk during surgical procedures.
Epilepsy
EEG testing records the electrical activity of the brain. This testing can help diagnose seizure disorders and many other neurological disorders. It can also determine the negative effects of stroke, trauma and other disease processes affecting the brain. EEG can also be monitored in surgery to assure the brain is receiving adequate blood flow and oxygen during surgical procedures. It can also guide surgeons in their decision making during epilepsy surgery.
Intraoperative testing is also helpful to localize and identify structures that have been impaired or displaced by trauma, bleeding or tumors. Some of the surgeries that utilize intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring include: neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, vascular surgery, cardiac surgery, ENT surgery. More recently, a variety of general surgeries such as thyroidectomies have been added as monitored procedures as well.
Neurosurgery
Neurophysiologic intraoperative monitoring provides live time information about the functional integrity of the central nervous system during surgical procedures. IONM can provide early warning of compromised patients before permanent damage occurs. Various testing can also be useful to localize and identify neuronal structures that have been impaired/displaced by trauma, bleeding or tumors. Surgeries that that utilize intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring include: neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, vascular surgery, cardiac surgery, ENT surgery. More recently, a variety of general surgeries such as thyroidectomies have been added as monitored procedures as well.
Vascular Surgery
Neurophysiologic intra-operative testing and monitoring provides real time information about the functional integrity of neural structures at risk. IONM provides early warning of compromised patients before permanent neurological deficit occurs. IONM can also be useful to localize and identify neuronal tissue that has been impaired, displaced by space occupying lesions or attached to abnormal connective tissue. Surgeries that utilize intra-operative monitoring include Neurosurgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Cardiac Surgery, ENT Surgery and more recently various general surgeries such as thyroidectomies.
