When you get emergency care or get treated by an out-of-network provider at an in-network hospital or ambulatory surgical center, you are protected from surprise billing or balance billing.
Colonoscopy
Colonoscopy is the most effective colon cancer screening technique because it can not only detect colon cancer but also remove precancerous growths, called polyps, during a single procedure. Other tests can detect abnormal cells or blood in the stool, but patients must schedule a follow-up colonoscopy if they receive positive results. Colonoscopy uses a flexible tube with a camera to inspect the colon for abnormalities and remove or sample them for microscopic evaluation. Many people think colonoscopy is painful, but patients receive sedation and the procedure usually lasts less than 30 minutes.

Radiology
When you get services from an in-network hospital or ambulatory surgical center, certain providers there may be out-of-network. In these cases, the most those providers may bill you is your plan’s in-network cost-sharing amount. This applies to emergency medicine, anesthesia, pathology, radiology, laboratory, neonatology, assistant surgeon, hospitalist, or intensivist services. These providers can’t balance bill you and may not ask you to give up your protections not to be balance billed.

Towson Surgical Center (“TSC”) was founded by a group of local physicians in 1996, as physician-owned, physician-led facility providing outpatient surgical services to Baltimore County MD, and surrounding areas. In 2003, TSC partnered with National Surgical Care, Inc. (“NSC”), to take advantage of NSC’s capital resources and network of multi-specialty surgery centers around the country. Through the NSC transaction, the physician partners continued to own a minority interest in TSC. In 2011, NSC was acquired by AmSurg Corp., one of the nation’s largest owners and operators of surgery centers. Today, TSC continues to provide high quality ambulatory surgical services as a joint venture between local physicians and an affiliate of AmSurg Corp.
