MRI
"In early 2008 I began experiencing problems with my balance and severe headaches. My symptoms progressed to the point that I was using a walker and had to take medical leave from work. Treatments by local doctors were not helping my symptoms. A friend from work told me about Dr. Bindal and I scheduled an appointment to see him in June 2008. Dr. Bindal showed genuine concern about my symptoms. An MRI of my neck showed a leak in spinal fluid at the site of a previous neck surgery. Dr. Bindal performed surgery in July 2008 to repair the leak. My symptoms rapidly improved. I was walking without a walker and no longer had the excruciating headaches. I was released to return to work September 1, 2008. In June 2011 I returned to see Dr. Bindal for severe right leg pain and weakness. I was in a wheelchair. I had several tests, a neurological workup and was diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus. Dr. Bindal performed surgery in August 2011 to insert a shunt to help relieve the pressure in my brain. Again, I recovered completely from the surgery with full relief of the painful symptoms. I now walk an hour every day. I am so thankful I found Dr. Bindal. I feel like he is my guardian angel and saved my life on two different occasions."

Computed Tomography
She had predominantly posterior vector of disease and had some preserved lordosis. It was elected to perform posterior reconstruction of the spine via laminoplasty. One year later, she was doing wonderfully. Neck pain was resolved and strength was normal. She no longer experienced balance difficulties and the numbness in her hands disappeared. The post-operative CT scan demonstrated successful decompression of the spinal cord and reconstruction of the spinal canal (Figures 3 and 4).
Chemotherapy
Treatment for Meningiomas Tumors usually consists of either surgery, radiation, or observation. There is no medical treatment or chemotherapy available for benign brain and spinal meningiomas. For tumors causing pressure on critical brain structures, surgery may be the only treatment option. For certain small tumors, or asymptomatic tumors, radiation can be a very effective treatment. The most effective type of radiation is focused beam stereotactic radiation, also called radiosurgery.
Radiation Oncology

Sciatica
A microdiscectomy (also called a microdecompression) is usually more effective for relieving leg pain (also known as radiculopathy, or sciatica) than lower back pain. As a general rule, microdiscectomy is considered a relatively reliable surgery for immediate, or nearly immediate, relief of sciatica from a lumbar herniated disc.
Whiplash
Neck pain can occur for a variety of reasons. Most of them are best treated without surgery. These include neck arthritis, muscle spasms, whiplash from a car accident, and even stress, among many others. Most of these conditions can be managed with gentle anti-inflammatory medicines, rest, or muscle relaxers, and physical therapy. At the Methodist Sugar Land Spine Center, our patients have access to world-class spine focused physical therapy. In fact, at the Spine Center we have the only spine focused physical therapy department in greater Houston. Sometimes, in more severe cases, patients may benefit from epidural steroid injections performed by a specially trained Pain Management specialist.
Pinched Nerve
If you’re experiencing pain, numbness, and tingling around the spot of a pinched nerve in your back, that’s known as radiculopathy. There are three main types of radiculopathy that you might deal with and your neurosurgeon will examine your pain and pinched nerve to determine which kind you are dealing with. It’s important that you talk to your neurosurgeon when dealing with pain like this so that you can start treating it as soon as possible and find relief from your symptoms.
Minimally Invasive Surgery
Kyphoplasty is considered a minimally invasive surgery because it is performed through a small skin puncture rather than a larger (open) incision. A typical kyphoplasty procedure, described below, takes 1 to 2 hours per vertebral level to complete.

Physical Therapists

Physical Therapy
Often, radiculopathy can be treated with conservative methods. It’s important to work on improving your posture in order to prevent this from occurring and to stop some of your pain. You may also need to take over-the-counter medicines for pain. At-home physical therapy exercises are also very helpful in easing some of the pain that you’re experiencing. You may not even need any treatment at all to relieve your symptoms, depending on the severity of your case.
Slipped Disc
Treatment for herniated discs is often conservative and nonsurgical and include options such as medication, activity modification, physical therapy and steroid injections. Patients may limit the amount of bending, lifting and twisting in order to decrease the amount of stress and pressure on the lumbar spine, which may increase the pressure on the affected nerve root. Medication for slipped disc treatment can include anti-inflammatory drugs, analgesics and muscle relaxants. Some patients may also benefit from an anti-inflammatory spinal injection as part of their herniated disc treatment to lessen nerve swelling and irritation caused by the damaged disc.
