Overall

When I submitted my paperwork to the State of NH for a medical exemption from the anti-car window tinting law, they told me that my note from my optometrist confirming my failure of his glare test wasn't sufficient and that I'd have to get their form signed by an MD or a DO.

This led me to Eyesight Ophthalmic Services. After one of the administrative assistants showed all of my paperwork and the prescription from my optometrist to Dr. Warren S. Goldblatt (the owner of the business), the assistant told me Dr. Goldblatt accused me of attempted fraud and that he wouldn't accept me as a patient.

Dr. Goldblatt didn't have the courage to make this assumptive, repulsive remark to me personally. Instead, he cowardly instructed his assistant to relay the message, which implicitly suggests he didn't think my optometrist was a competent doctor.

As we all know, the culture of any business comes from the top down. If this is the type of unprofessional, obnoxious, offensive behavior that the owner of the business engages in with new patients, how will they treat you?

Dear ANONYMOUS, I'm sorry that you feel that your experience at Eyesight did not end in the results you had hoped for. Since you posted yourself anonymously, I have no way of verifying that your situation occurred as it did, but it is doubtful that any doctor would accuse any person of “fraud” by simply reviewing paperwork from an optometrist. And they certainly wouldn’t have a staff member relay these comments either. To clarify your comments about tinted windows, although tinted windows can offer relief / better vision for those who experience glare and halos at night, dark tinted windows also prohibit the ability to see inside a vehicle. This situation, as I'm sure you can understand, may endanger the lives of public service personnel as well as the general public. It is widely accepted that wearing a yellow or dark tinted pair of glasses would allow for comfortable and safe driving capabilities. With that being said, there are legitimate medical reasons that someone could have approval from an MD or DO to have tinted windows. This determination can only be made when a patient completes an eye exam with an MD or DO, and not by notes from an optometrist alone. I don’t see any indication in your comments that you completed an eye exam or requested one. And as you indicated, THE STATE requires approval from an MD or DO. Again, we carefully take into consideration the needs of our patients, and after a thorough eye exam by our medical staff, we will prescribe what is necessary to ensure patient comfort and capabilities for vision tasks. We think the optometrists in our community are highly competent, but again, a doctor cannot sign of on any “medically necessary” documents without a complete evaluation.
