My house is over 50 years old with wiring probably just as old. I want to inslall an airconditioner. Should I have an electrician check out the inside wiring first?

It is always a good idea to have a qualified electrician check your home wiring if you think it is questionable. For an air conditioner, what kind were you planing on installing? You can have a 120 volt or 240 volt window unit, or a central air unit. With a 120 volt window unit a regular outlet could be ok, but a dedicated outlet would be better. (A breaker with one outlet, no other outlets throughout the house) On a 240 window unit, it has to have a breaker to run a single 240 volt outlet. If it is a central air unit, it will need to be wired to the breaker box. The AC installer will look for room in your breaker box.
