Dr. Pribitkin is also an expert thyroid and parathyroid surgeon. He is pleased to be a founding member and co-director of the Jefferson Thyroid and Parathyroid Center. Thyroid
Dr. Pribitkin maintains a special interest in Thyroid Surgery. He is pleased to be one of the founding members of the Jefferson's Thyroid Treatment Group. This group of dedicated physicians offers patients a unique multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of certain thyroid disorders, along with faster service than has traditionally been available. The Group's director is Jeffrey L. Miller, MD., who is also Director of Clinical Endocrinology at Jefferson.
Thyroid Cancer
Dr. Pribitkin and Dr. Jeffrey Miller co-chaired the second bi-ennial Jefferson Symposium on Thyroid Cancer on October 30, 2009. Over 150 surgeons, endocrinologists and health care professionals attended this regional symposium, which featured nationally renown speakers R, Michael Tuttle, Ashok Shaha, David Stewart, Ernie Mazzaferri and Ian Hay. The meeting offered spirited debates regarding the new American Thyroid Association Guidelines for the Treatment of Thyroid Cancer and invited extensive audience participation in a unique panel format. Standing room only was available for the event which attracted participants from across the Eastern United States, solidifying Jefferson’s reputation as a thought leader in the treatment of Thyroid Cancer.

Ultrasound
Sonic rhinoplasty. Sonic rhinoplasty uses ultrasound waves that very quickly vibrate a fine metallic tip. This tip precisely dissolves the nasal bone which is washed away from the field of surgery. The ultrasonic bone aspirator enables us to actually sculpt the bone under direct vision in real time. Not only that, the ultrasonic bone aspirator won’t injure the skin and won’t injure the cartilage like a rasp does. It allows a degree of precision that has never been enjoyed before by the rhinoplasty surgeon.
Nuclear Medicine
Jefferson's multidisciplinary approach can greatly benefit the 5 to 6 percent of females and 2 percent of males in the general population who have growths on their thyroids. Treatment of suspicious thyroid growths usually requires the patient to see several different physicians individually and wait days or weeks before they have all the information they need. At Jefferson, Dr. Miller heads a team consisting of thyroid surgeons, nuclear medicine specialists, cytologists, radiologists and researchers who can often streamline this process to just one office visit. In that visit, patients first meet with an endocrinologist who reviews their individual cases and possibly suggests further tests and/or needle biopsies. Once the tests have been conducted and the results received, the multidisciplinary team meets to discuss diagnoses and treatment strategies. By the end of the day, patients learn all their treatment options, including surgery. The usual anxiety created by an extended diagnostic period is reduced, and the patient has a head start on treatment.

Botox
The appearance of wrinkles in the aging forehead is directly related to muscular activity in the area. Many procedures including direct excision, dermabrason, chemical peeling and soft tissue implants have been used to remove these lines, but none have succeeded as permanent solutions to the problem. Botox injection (Clostridium botulinum type A exotoxin) treats the problem by temporarily paralyzing the muscles causing these forehead wrinkles. Using a very small 30 gauge needle, Dr. Pribitkin precisely injects minute quantities of Botox into overactive forehead muscles. After about one week, these muscles can no longer move and patients can no longer scowl, no matter how hard they try. The forehead does not feel numb or different in any way, but the improvement in the wrinkling lasts from three to six months. The best candidates for this procedure have relatively shallow wrinkles without dermal scarring as seen in these patient photos.
Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid surgery can dramatically enhance a person's appearance. Correction of droopy eyelids rejuvenates the face and brings a sparkle back to the eyes. Rhinoplasty
Although Dr Pribitkin had no financial association with Synergetics, Inc whatsoever, he has been retained as a consultant by Stryker to help improve the Sonopet device. Dr. Pribitkin notes, “As the originator of Sonic Rhinoplasty, I am delighted to join with Stryker in an ongoing process to perfect this technology and improve patient care.”

Despite having published extensively on Botulinum toxin, laser skin resurfacing and the use of extracellular matrices for facial rejuvenation, Dr. Pribitkin has elected to limit his practice to rhinoplasty, sino-nasal surgery, reconstructive surgery and thyroid/parathyroid procedures. Nonetheless, he is pleased to recommend patients to his partners, Dr. Ryan Heffelfinger and Dr. Howard Krein. Dr. Heffelfinger and Dr. Krein are both fellowship trained facial plastic and reconstructive surgeons, and are assistant professors at Thomas Jefferson University. Both are expert facelift and blepharoplasty surgeons who also offer extensive facial rejuvenation procedures including botulinum toxin, fillers and laser skin resurfacing in our new, state of the art Herbert Kean Center for Facial Aesthetics. Photographs will be taken during your consultation. Digital images of how your appearance will improve after surgery will be sent to you electronically within two weeks of your visit with Dr. Pribitkin.
