All i can say I worked there in 1997 and the crap has not changed. While working the I was forced to kill many many cats dogs for absolutely no reason. To many black labs.. dogs to old and not counting the poor animals that were accidentally put down..yes folks this happened. The kennel workers were used and abuse and cast aside if you didn't do what was told. One of the worst run organization and orange county animal shelter wasn't mich better. No compassion... kill kill kill. I also remember working there and being forced to put animals to sleep. I remember when I was told if there was a day that you could not do it because of emotions then don't do it. there were many shelter issues going on at that time with management so the Animal Control located across from the Humane Society basically took control and started killing everything. I refuse to kill anymore so I was fired. This is the type of organization we have

Great place , I adopted a Australian cattle dog mixed with German shepherd from this location over a month ago . Nice place , easy to find , nice and friendly staff who were able to answer all my questions . Made it easy to interact with animals and even easier to adopt . Great price and even gave me a bag of dog food to take home with my new pet .

I adopted a dog through the SPCA and it has been nothing but drama at home ever since. We were told the dog had a good temperament and was wonderful with other dogs. He has done nothing but bite at and bully our puppy since we brought him home. He's also aggressive with other dogs in our neighborhood, so much for good temperament. We had to surrender the dog a month after we got him. Nightmare!

This place is terrible. They never pick up their phones. I waited 45 minutes to get someone to greet me and sign me in. Then I was told my dog's shots weren't up to date and to "wait for a few minutes." After waiting for another 45 minutes they told me I was next, 3 other people went ahead of me and after more than an hour and a half I left. Don't listen to a word they say, they are as unintelligent as the animals they are supposed to take care of. 3 assistants played with boxes while glancing at my waiting file and walking right by.

Well, I guess it could have been a misunderstanding on my part... but I made an app't to get these 2 feral cats from my neighborhood spayed & nuetered, I've never used the SPCA before, but don't have much money so vet prices were not an option... I was given instructions on the phone, which I wrote down, and was told to be there at 7:45 am to "drop off" the animals, and pick back up at 2:30pm. Well, at 8:30, when there was a roomful of people still, I went to the desk to speak with the lady, bc I had to work at 9am & wanted to see how much longer it would be.. Well, apparently there were still a handful of people in front of me (even though I had checked in right at 7:45), and even after it was my turn, I would have to wait through the first procedure for some reason which she explained so poorly that I will not try to repeat.. She tried to get me to pay & reschedule (LOL) since I couldn't sit there all day... Also, the cost was $200 instead of the $165 I was quoted on the phone.. I took the cats & left. Fine, I guess that's how things go, but be prepared to spend hours there, there is no "dropping off".

It was difficult to make an appointment over the phone, nobody ever answers the phone, it just keeps ringing and ringing. I decided to make an appointment personally and the receptionist was nice. The day of my appointment, everybody was really nice and professional. The bill was decent too, I would have paid twice the amount at a private clinic for the exact same service. It was my first time here and I'm a happy customer. My dog liked this place too, he was treated extremely well and was having the time of his life greeting the other dogs in the waiting room.

Lazy and rude paid employees

The volunteers are great, but the office workers in the front are some of the worst people I've ever come across. I was told on the phone the fee to adopt a dog was 75$. I brought 100$ in cash and accidently left my credit card at home. After I choose a one year old Shepherd, the actual fee came to be $120. They would not allow me to give them my credit card number verbally or call my family member or roommate for the balance. I was told "they've hear all kinds of made-up stories from people.. " i had to leave and hope he would be there early the next day as several people were interested in this dog. Luckily I did get him. I do urge everyone to check out animal control services across the street. They are a high kill-facility and those dogs are especially in need. I adopted two dogs from there and was treated with respect each time.

I definitely recommend the SPCA of Central FL! I was lucky enough to adopt from them, and have used the veterinary clinics at both the Orlando and Sanford locations over the years, too. I've been very impressed with the shelter as well as the clinics. Shelters are bright and cheerful, spacious and clean - you can tell they really care about keeping the animals feeling safe, healthy and happy. The medical clinics are great for surgeries as well as regular vet checkups; I trust the doctors and techs there very much. The staff members and volunteers I have dealt with over the years are caring, courteous and professional; they work so hard and really go out of their way to lend a hand. I am so thankful for all they do for our community!

I adopted my cat Snowball from the SPCA of Central Florida. I had recently lost my other cat and wasn't sure yet that I wanted to adopt. But when 8 came by "just to look" I saw his little white face and that was it. The staff were so kind and caring. Thanks for helping me find my new best lap snuggler:)

I tried to adopt a cat at this location and was treated with extreme disrespect and unprofessional behavior. I will NOT be going back.

Instead, I walked across the parking lot to Orange County Animal Services where the staff is helpful as well as friendly. I adopted a cat and was very pleased with my experience at Animal Services.

Be ready to be treated horribly. These girls were very judgmental. My husband and I took our stray puppy there to be neutered and were treated as if we were ignorant. I hated bringing my puppy to this place from the day the appointment was made. I thought that I would try and support our local SPCA. Thank God the ordeal is over. Our puppy is fine and happy to be home.

I took my little Aussie girl ...

I took my little Aussie girl less then 2 yrs ago to the Orlando Shelter to get fixed. My husband had taken our little Welchie there a year or less before. My little Aussie Girl is beautiful and special to me she also had burns and so sad I gave her love and attention and even took off work 2 days to be with her. We also have a cocker thank god the vet took care of him I would have killed the girl. NEVER AGAIN will I go there Never. Those are our rescue pups love them with all my heart.

We were greeted with nasty remarks and all they did was complain (I thought then go work some where else) Right THEN I should have turned around and walked out. When I went to pick up my baby the girl had her around the neck I ran to get her away from the girl. I was so angery if I would have had a free hand I would have belted her in the nose. thanks to a nice lay that was there and got her small dog she opened up the door and my tail gate to my jeep that I had the back with pillow and blanket for my girls ride home. I hated that girl and if I ever see her again I will tell her off in a heart beat. Never will I take anything back there they are mean and rud and crude. they should NOt be working there and they should be told by their boss to straighten up their act and more people should tell them off in front of everyone. Matter-in fact just thinking of it I want to go there still today and tell her off and hold her around the neck and see how she feels I will NEVER go there again for my babies I will pay my vet more money and have them treated with love and kindness. then money is worth my safty of my babies. There use to be a fabulous Vet there at the shelter even the police liked him DR Weinikee if I spelled it right he was WONDERFUL to say the least I miss him a lot. He loved and really cared for the animals. It scares me to think of the poor animals left in the care of those people that have no love or hearts for taking care of these sweet beloved fur families. They need to go find a job where they are by themselves and no one to hear them or see them digging diches comes to min for them. actuall 1/3 of a star would better suite them.

Just so you know the SPCA shares a parking lot area with the Humane sSociety but are 2 different organizations. I do totally agree that the paid workers (NOT the volunteers) at the SPCA are extremely rude.

Rude Employees

Just left the ORLANDO SPCA. . . . . . .did not quite comprehend the expenses involved with my dogs treatment, so I was trying to ask questions. The front desk girl got in a huff and said, "Well, you can't see the doctor." (What????) I told her I'm just trying to understand what you're saying. Needless to say, I was rudely told to leave and call the supervisor when she gets in.

Humane? What a laugh!

On Friday, March 19th, 2010, I took my awesome little dog into the SPCA's Sanford Facility to get spayed. The women of the front desk and pay area were extremely rude. Not once did they smile or show any love or compassion for animals. They lost my paperwork and called my mother(who's dog was also being spayed) and grumbled and growled about how her dog was in heat and it would be an additional $10. My mother, being the responsible person she is, wrote that information on the dog's paperwork in big bold letters before we released the dog into the SPCA's care. She also told the front desk women and the pay lady. We were absolutely taken aback by the rude treatment we were given. Then upon picking up both animals, we noticed razorburn on both animals nipples. A day later, there are scabs on the nipples, and my dog, has razorburn, cuts, and scabs on her belly and her thighs. I am appalled. The SPCA promotes spaying and neutering, and kindness to animals, and yet, they treated myself, my family, and my animals horribly. The amount of scrapes on my dog is verging on animal abuse. They also clipped some of her nails, and I do not know what they used, but her poor little nails are splintered on the ends and get caught on her bedding. I will never recommend the SPCA's service to my friends, family, or even strangers on the street. I feel so bad for any dog in the care of the Sanford SPCA. They are sloppy and uncaring. Pay the extra money and take your animal to a REAL vet.
