Nova Dental

X-rays
First, the hygienist will ask you questions about your medical and dental history. She will also take x-rays of your mouth so the doctor can look for cavities and other problems. If you have recent dental x-rays, we may not need to take new ones. Next, the hygienist will clean your teeth.

Teeth Cleaning
Healthy children (and adults) need dental cleanings every six months. Our gentle and child-friendly hygienists perform these cleanings, preventing tooth decay and going far beyond what brushing alone can do. Using specially designed tools, hygienists remove dental plaque from your child’s teeth. They clean the dental surfaces and inside the crevices where bacteria can hide. If the plaque isn’t removed, it can deplete the minerals in teeth, leading to cavities.
Fluoride Treatment
Children should also get a fluoride treatment between the ages of 4 and 6. Fluoride strengthens your tooth enamel, protecting it from calcium loss.
Dental Sealants
Cavities are common in children. To protect against them, we apply sealants once kids’ permanent molar teeth have fully erupted, usually around age 6. Sealants are nearly invisible. We paint the sealant solution on your child’s back teeth in just a couple of minutes at their regular appointment. It reaches into the pits and fissures of the teeth, protecting spots where bacteria otherwise could do damage. According to the CDC, school-age kids without sealants get three times as many cavities as kids with sealants. Sealant protection can last for up to 10 years.

Fillings
If your child has a cavity, we will fill it painlessly, restoring the tooth’s strength and appearance. If the cavity is in a baby tooth, we will use either a composite filling or a glass ionomer filling. Both blend seamlessly with the surrounding tooth, so no one will be able to see a difference. Unlike old-style metal amalgam fillings, glass ionomer and composite fillings require minimal drilling. These fillings bond firmly to the tooth.
Veneers
A disadvantage of Invisalign clear braces is their cost, which is higher than that of traditional braces. Also, Invisalign isn’t right for all misaligned teeth. Sometimes, only traditional braces will work, such as when teeth haven’t fully erupted. In some cases, you may prefer dental veneers over braces.

Bridges

Root Canal Treatment
An infected tooth is best treated with a root canal. A root canal will save your tooth so you don’t need a bridge or implant later. In addition, it’s much less traumatic than the alternative, pulling the tooth.

Dentures
The roots of your teeth are held in place by the bone in your jaw. Suppose you lose your teeth and don’t replace them. In that case, your body will begin to efficiently reuse the minerals in your jawbone, directing them to where they are needed more. As a result, your jawbone will shrink steadily over time. Periodically, you’ll need to have your removable dentures relined, so they still fit. Every 5 to 8 years, you’ll need new dentures. If you lose too much bone, you might not be able to wear any kind of denture.
Overdentures
To be a candidate for implant overdentures, you need to be in good general health. Your mouth must be healthy, too, without periodontal disease.

Dental Implants
If you’re missing all your teeth, there are several ways to restore them with implants. One option is using multiple implants to hold a full arch of teeth or a series of bridges. Unfortunately, patients who have insufficient jawbone often need bone grafts before they’re ready for implants.

Tooth Extractions
Our oral surgeon, Dr. Abunasra, typically performs wisdom teeth extraction under sedation. That means you won’t remember the procedure, though you’ll still be awake.

Orthodontics
Dr. Jaimie Vassiliou, Orthodontist – Dr. Vassiliou is a graduate of the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. She also holds a certificate in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine.
Invisalign Orthodontics
Invisalign clear aligners can give you a straight, healthy-looking smile. Two of our dentists, Dr. Ijaz and Dr. Pollak, are Invisalign certified. So is our orthodontist, Dr. Vassiliou.
Braces
You can still straighten your teeth with braces if you’re an adult. It takes longer to straighten adult teeth, so it’s best to correct malocclusion young. However, an orthodontist can safely treat healthy teeth regardless of your age.

Teeth Whitening
Before we begin, the dentist will check your teeth to make sure they’re healthy enough for the strong bleaching gel we use. If you haven’t had a cleaning in a while, it’s a good idea to schedule one ahead of your whitening appointment. If you’ve had one recently, you probably don’t need another.
