Many of its causes are the same as those of infertility. Such causes could be endometriosis, or polycystic ovarian syndrome.

Stress incontinence or effort related incontinence may be due to weakened pelvic floor muscles as well as a weak or damaged sphincter or an abnormal urethra. This condition allows urine to leak when you do anything that strains or stresses the abdomen, such as coughing, sneezing, laughing, exercising, lifting, straining, getting out of chair, bending over or even walking. The major risk factor for stress incontinence in women is damage to pelvic muscles that may occur during pregnancy or childbirth. The major risk factor for men is prostate surgery with damage to the sphincter.

Surgery is typically recommended as treatment for male reproductive organs and urinary tract organs, including prostate cancer, ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJ), bladder and kidney cancer and vesicoureteral reflux.
Kidney Stones
Kidney stones (renal lithiasis) are small, hard deposits of mineral and acid salts on the inner surfaces of your kidneys. Normally, the substances that make up kidney stones are diluted in the urine. When urine is concentrated, though, minerals may crystallize, stick together and solidify. The result is a kidney stone. Most kidney stones contain calcium.

Interstitial Cystitis
NEUROUROLOGY concerns nervous system control of the genitourinary system, and of conditions causing abnormal urination. Neurological diseases and disorders such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, and spinal cord injury can disrupt the lower urinary tract and result in conditions such as urinary incontinence, detrusor overactivity, urinary retention, and bladder sphincter dyssynergia. Urodynamic studies play an important diagnostic role in neurourology. Therapy for nervous system disorders includes clean intermittent self-catheterization of the bladder, anticholinergic drugs, injection of Botulinum toxin into the bladder wall and advanced and less commonly used therapies such as sacral neuromodulation. Less marked neurological abnormalities can cause urological disorders as well -- for example, abnormalities of the sensory nervous system are thought by many researchers to play a role in disorders of painful or frequent urination (e.g. painful bladder syndrome, formerly known as interstitial cystitis).[1]

Multiple Sclerosis
Other causes can be longer lasting, even permanent. These include such conditions as an overactive bladder, weakness of the muscles holding the bladder in place, weakness of the sphincter muscles surrounding the urethra, birth defects, an enlarged prostate, spinal cord injuries, surgery or diseases involving the nerves and/or muscles (e.g., multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's Disease, spinal cord injury and stroke). In some cases, more than one factor causes incontinence in a single individual. Urgency incontinence, often referred to as overactive bladder (OAB), occurs when the bladder contracts without you wanting it to. You may feel as if you can't wait to reach a toilet and you may lose urine on the way. At times, you may leak urine without any warning at all. A bladder can become overactive because of infection that irritates the bladder lining. The nerves that normally control the bladder can also be responsible for an overactive bladder. In other cases, the cause may be unclear. Risk factors include aging, obstruction of urine flow, inconsistent emptying of the bladder and a diet high in bladder irritants (e.g., coffee, tea, cola, chocolate and acidic fruit juices).

Ultrasound
Post-void residual measurement. This test may be performed to see whether any urine remains after you have attempted to empty your bladder completely. No more than one or two ounces should remain after urinating (voiding). Measurements may be made by inserting a small, soft tube, called a catheter, into the bladder to drain the remaining urine or by using sound waves, called ultrasound, to look at the bladder. When these special sound waves are directed at an organ, such as the bladder, shadow-like images are produced. These images can determine the amount of urine present in the bladder.
MRI
The most important distinction made by any staging system is whether or not the cancer is still confined to the prostate. Several tests can be used to look for evidence of spread. These include computed tomography to evaluate spread within the pelvis, bone scans to look for spread to the bones, and endorectal coil magnetic resonance imaging to closely evaluate the prostatic capsule and the seminal vesicles. Bone scans should reveal osteoblastic appearance due to increased bone density in the areas of bone metastasis - opposite to what is found in many other cancers that metastasize.

Computed Tomography
Computed tomography (CT): The CT scan is a special kind of x-ray that takes detailed images of your kidneys and bladder as well as other organs. It can help find enlarged lymph nodes that might contain cancer.
Chemotherapy
In contrast, intravesical chemotherapy involves anti-cancer drugs put into the bladder through a catheter. Drugs given this way reach cancer cells in the bladder lining directly. Because it mainly affects the cells lining the bladder, intravesical chemotherapy doesn't make you feel ill or cause your hair to fall out like some intravenous treatments can cause. The main side effects of intravesical chemo are irritation and a burning feeling in the bladder.
Radiation Therapy
Radiation therapy is treatment with high-energy rays (such as x-rays) to kill cancer cells and shrink tumors. The radiation may come from outside the body or from radioactive materials placed directly in the tumor. After surgery, radiation can kill small deposits of cancer cells that may be too small to see.

Robotic Surgery
ENDOUROLOGY is the branch of urology that deals with minimally invasive surgical procedures. Different from open surgery, endourology is carried out through instruments, and traditionally, transurethral surgery has been the cornerstone of endourology. Via the urethra, the complete urinary tract can be reached, enabling prostate surgery, surgery of tumors of the urothelium, stone surgery and simple urethral and ureteral procedures. In recent years, laparoscopy has evolved rapidly and will soon replace certain formerly open surgical procedures. Robotic tumor surgery of the prostate is the latest development in endourology and the fastest growing. Today, approximately 80% of prostatectomies in the U.S. are carried out by robotic surgery.

Botox
In more difficult cases, Botox injections can be used to paralyze a portion of the bladder. In addition, the bladder can be enlarged using a segment of small intestine. This operation, called augmentation cystoplasty, is very successful in curing incontinence-more than 80 percent of the cases-but its main drawback is the need in 10 to 30 percent of the patients to perform self-catheterization to empty their bladder.
