Endoscopy
To obtain the best treatment option, the physician needs to properly assess the patientâ€™s history and symptoms and then progress through a structured physical examination often including nasal endoscopy, bacterial cultures and CT Scanning.

MRI
Computed Tomography
Black and white images are CT scan images of actual position of surgical instruments (cross hares) in 3 dimensions during surgery. The color image is what the surgeon is seeing thru the endoscope at the same time during the surgery.

Minimally Invasive Surgery
Modern, minimally invasive surgery should remove only severely damaged tissue enlarging the natural outflow tracts to the sinuses, leaving as much tissue and cilia in place as possible to regenerate normal tissue. Otolaryngologists â€“ head and neck specialists â€“ have found endoscopic surgery to be highly effective in restoring normal function to the sinuses. The procedure removes areas of obstruction, facilitating the normal flow cleansing of mucus.

Fungus
Nasal irrigation to remove the thick mucus which has fungus embedded within it. They often benefit from anti fungal medications usually delivered into the nose as a liquid or aerosol. Occasionally patients require oral antifungal medication.

Allergies
Evaluation for Inhalant and Food allergies is often helpful in patients with frequent sinus problems. Formal allergy testing using skin pricks and/or blood work is often helpful in identifying sensitivities to pollen, dust mold and other allergic triggers. Avoidance of triggers is often enough.Â In many cases sinus treatment with anti allergy medication (oral and nasal antihistamines and steroid nasal sprays) is very helpful while some patients need allergy desensitization administered over a period of many months either with injections or sublingual (dissolves under the tongue) therapy.
