Piano Lessons with Frank King

As a piano instructor, Frank King is “Second to None.” I recommend him to anyone looking for the best and most accommodating in a piano teacher.

Frank King was my piano instructor for several years, but now since I have initiated my college career, I have decided to share the good news so that others can benefit from his superlative teaching qualities. Mr. King calls his unique teaching method: individualization. He tailors your lessons to fit your personal musical aptitude and interests thus maximizing your motivation. Mr King is consistently good natured and concerned about your comfort. He holds firmly to the belief that if you are comfortable, his teaching techniques will be most effective. This quality makes for consummate professionalism. His patience is inexhaustible as is his willingness to explain something repeatedly until you fully understand the subject matter thoroughly.

Availability is not an issue. If you require additional assistance, he is always on call at no expense to you. Scheduling is scarcely a problem. If you can’t make your appointment and would like to try for a make-up, if he has a cancellation, it is yours. I could wax on, but suffice it to say, if you are looking for excellence in a piano instructor, Frank King is your man. I wish I could give him TEN STARS. Thank you, Mr King!!!

Mr. King is a very knowledgable instructor, but he has a very nasty attitude. When we first began lessons, I informed him that I was a full time adult student and that sometimes class could fall on the night and during the time frame that he had me scheduled for piano lessons. This January (2022) I sent him a message to let him know that one of my classes for school would fall on the night of my scheduled piano lessons and this would last throughout the month of February. I asked him how he'd like to proceed. He called me with a bit of an attitude, but said that for the month of January we could be on a temporary lesson because a spot just happened to open up for the month. During our last January lesson, we forgot to discuss what the way forward for February lessons, so I sent him a text today (1Feb 2022), letting him know that we forgot to arrange lessons for the month of February. In the text, I also asked him if we needed to just resume our regularly scheduled piano lessons for March, because I knew how much of an issue it had been for him with changing my lesson in January. I got a phone call from Mr. King today that was unpleasant, to say the least. He yelled and talked over me as I tried to explain to him the context of our previous conversations about me being a student and the possibility of me having class scheduled during lesson time. If I'd known, when I started working Mr. King, that he could be so unprofessional and unwavering, I would have definitely searched elsewhere for lessons. As I stated, he is a knowledgeable teacher but after the huge lack of customer service (as his piano lessons are a service to students), professionalism, and consideration that he displayed to me, not once, but twice, I strongly do not recommend anyone who could have the slightest schedule change try to get lessons from him.

Frank King has instructed my son for many years. He individualizes lessons to the student's musical aptitude to bring about maximum productivity. His patience and instructive sticktoitiveness know no bounds.
Frank uses several well-proven instruction books simultaneously all while modifying pieces to make them more pianistic, creating remarkable arrangements, composing original pieces, such as my parents wedding song that my son played for them at their 50th anniversary party.

highly recommend him to anyone that wants to learn how to play piano.

Frank is not an ordinary piano teacher by any stretch. If you are looking for a boring teacher that just assigns scales and simple songs over and over again, you probably need to keep looking as those are a dime a dozen. If your student isn’t open to being taught by a true musician with decades of no-kidding experience, then you should probably also move along. But if you are looking for a true world-class musician and music professional who loves inspiring young students to achieve their true potential with a perfect balance of fun, accountability, sternness, compassion and just a dash of eccentricity, then you won’t find anyone better. I can’t say enough great things about Frank as a music instructor. Frank has worked with our son for a little over a year and the progress he has made is nothing short of incredible. Frank doesn’t just teach scales and rote memorization of songs from a lesson book. Although he does use tried and proven teaching materials, he also gets a feel for his student and tailors his instruction to the genres of music that most excite his pupils. He teaches his students to be true musicians, not just instrumentalists. My son is 10 and Frank has worked with him to create new arrangements of pieces and to create medleys and mash-ups in a true collaborative fashion. My son can play things like Great Balls of Fire, Flight of the Bumblebee, and Walking in Memphis. At 10 years old. Because of Frank’s instruction.

Frank has been our daughters piano instructor for 6 years now. We have been impressed with all that she has learned in that time. It is not just working through simple instruction books either. He customizes her lessons, composes songs, modifies songs to make lessons more engaging and personal. She has worked on technique, calisthenics and building a repertoire. He adds in arpeggios, walking baselines, jazz riffs, and interpolations to increase the difficulty of pieces and to make them sound amazing! We didn’t miss a beat when Covid halted our in person lessons as Frank continued to provide virtual lessons on a weekly basis. He can watch her finger placement and can hear when a note is missed or something needs a tweak. He is so encouraging and knows just what to say when she’s being too hard on herself. We feel so fortunate to have him as our daughters teacher!

This is a review for Frank King piano teacher extraordinaire. Frank opened my child’s mind to the beauty of the piano. My son has been taking lessons from Frank for about a year. Our lessons are being done online due to the impact of covid and even through all this, I am amazed about how much my son has progressed. Frank uses Google Duo for the lessons, and he can watch my son’s hand placements, just like if he was there in person. He took the time to listen to my child’s concerns and taught him at a pace that fostered energy, excitement, and enthusiasm. Frank brought an individually based teaching style that really help my child develop and learn without frustration. It’s because of Frank that my child continues to want to learn to study piano and perfect his craft. Frank is extremely patient, understanding, and flexible. He is an awesome teacher and I highly recommend him regardless of level.

Mr. Frank has been providing lessons for my daughter for about four years. She has showed a love for the piano, skill in reading music, an appreciation for a variety of music genre's, and confidence in performing in school talent shows. We appreciate Mr. Frank and his love for teaching and his ability to create an individual plan for each student so they will thrive. We thank him and look forward to continuing lessons with an excellent teacher.

My eleven year old has been studying piano under the instruction of Frank King for over two years. Mr. King has an amazing ability to tailor his lessons to all ages and skill levels. My child struggles academically and behaviorally and all the while Mr. King remains steadfast in his commitment to my child's growth. He knows exactly when to advance in studies and when to pull back. He commits a considerable amount of time to incorporating character development into his lessons. He undoubtedly has the experience and proficiency to produce high quality musicians but he also rises to the occasion when presented with a difficult student. His love for music is such that he trains any student willing to put forth the effort. He's available for questions anytime and as an added bonus, I can now play a piece or two. It has been a pleasure knowing Mr. King and I anticipate working in partnership with him as a parent for many years to come.

Frank King is a wonderful piano teacher with effective teaching methods. Our daughter has been taking piano lessons with Frank King for the past 12 years. Along the way, Frank has always shown immeasurable and unwavering patience and kindness, and has always kept our daughter engaged and wanting to learn more.

It's been a pleasure to have a front-row seat to this 12 year journey. Frank has always prepared lessons that are age appropriate: starting out fun when she was younger and getting more and more (and more) challenging as she got older. I have always been amazed at how Frank helped her quickly develop her piano skills. From the very first lesson, you could see the progress.

Now that our daughter will soon scuttle off to college, her lessons with Frank may soon be coming to their natural conclusion. But it's no overstatement to say that Frank had a large part in shaping our daughter into the determined, successful individual that she now is.

Our experience with Frank King is a little different from other reviewers in that Mr. King is teaching my son to play the accordion! When lessons started a few years ago, we knew we were incredibly lucky to have found an accordion teacher close to home. We soon realized that we found a teacher with broad knowledge and experience in playing music, and in music theory and music composition. Mr. King adds that information in when it is helpful for the student, and at the student’s level of interest and pace. The most important part for my son is that Mr. King is an excellent, patient and engaging teacher. My son considers the lessons to be fun, interesting and productive. Through lessons and practice, he is making steady progress and has developed a nice repertoire of songs to play. With Covid concerns, we switched to Google Duo virtual lessons and the interaction, pointers and progress are continuing on track. My son is involved in a sport each season during the school year, but Mr. King sees my son’s commitment to and love for playing the accordion, and he has worked with us to find the best time for accordion lessons that won’t conflict with other activities.

When life’s busyness is full of a cacophony of chaotic comings and goings, I am grateful to hear the sonorous sounds of my teenage daughter practicing pieces old and new.

Frank King connects with students of varying ages and personality types — he’s taught all four of my kiddos so I’ve seen this firsthand. This particular daughter can be quiet and introverted but under Frank’s instruction, and with his encouraging manner, he brings out her personality, confidence and ability.

Frank is flexible and understanding when kids change. I’ve watched each of my own kids go through a stage where their interest in practicing diligently waned for a bit. Frank takes the time to talk with the student and hear what they have to say. He then mixes up the lesson approach and/or type of music being studied, and bam - we’re back in business!

Sixteen years with Frank should speak volumes - he’s a superlative piano instructor. We love hearing the progress as a difficult piece comes together. And most enjoyable are the mini-concerts our kids provide at home and during extended family gatherings.

Mr Frank has been providing music lessons to my grandchildren for over five years.Elizabeth,10, loved her lessons from day one. Her brother Chris, 9, soon began to study as well. Mr Frank is patient, encouraging and definitely makes their lessons fun. He guides them from one level to the next with skill and professionalism. Both have progressed so much that they play their repertoires at church and other social events. Best Yet-- Covid did not deter Mr Frank from finding a way to continue their lessons--(online) together he, Elizabeth and Chris continue their musical journey with laughter and joy. When I was only three years-old, I heard Für Elise on the piano and immediately began to beg my parents for piano lessons. They enlisted Frank King as my piano instructor which began a FIFTEEN-YEAR ODYSSEY into piano exploration and efflorescence. Teaching a three year-old is always a tentative undertaking because of the requisite characteristics the child must possess such as a level of maturity, attentiveness, motor skills, dedication, aptitude, motivation, etc. I was fortunate in that, according to Frank, I possessed all of the necessary imperatives at such a young age. He started me at the elementary level and I progressed uninterruptedly over the years. After FIFTEEN YEARS of lessons, I can say better than anyone else that Frank is the best piano instructor I could have ever asked for. Not only was Frank my teacher, but he made learning and mastering the instrument fun and I can honestly say that he became a MENTOR and a FRIEND. During each lesson, Frank would carefully watch and provide attentive feedback that was firm but kind. He never pushed me to play something I wasn’t prepared to do, but never hesitated to give me a challenge. From basic to advanced exercises, to learning technical material, to eventually playing advanced piano, I don’t think any of it would have been possible without Frank. Over the years I was aware that I obviously wasn’t Frank’s only student, but his ability to make each lesson so personal always made my time with him special. I highly recommend Frank King to any and all aspiring pianists.

Frank is an excellent, conscientious piano teacher. I have been taking lessons from Frank for 2 years. I am an adult who had not touched a piano for many years, and I was nervous about getting back into lessons. Frank has been so attentive and patient with me! If I could give more stars I would. Frank's love of music and teaching is so evident in every lesson I take. Like most industries, Covid hit and we moved our lessons to remote-online in 2020 using google duo, which he continues to utilize today. Through the video, he monitors my hand placement and fingers and it's as if we are in the same room. He has maintained his teaching effectiveness and focus on my playing and needs. Throughout our weekly 30 minute lessons, he is devoted to helping me improve my piano skills. Frank does not just go through the motions, he tailors my lessons to my abilities and commitment level while making me feel like I am the only student he has. He understands that life can get in the way and he has excellent ideas for getting in practice and continuing to enhance my skills even during the most challenging times. His memory for my specific weekly exercises is outstanding, and he is available for questions between lessons if needed. I recommend Frank to any level student!

In the short time that I have been taking piano lessons with Frank (about one year), I have progressed well beyond my expectations. Almost 11 years ago, after constant pleas from our son, I signed eight year old Tim up for piano lessons with Frank King, after hearing about Mr. King from some neighbors. It was one of the best decisions my wife and I ever made . I took him to his lessons weekly and listened to Frank patiently teach him proper technique and positioning of his hands. Tim learned many of the standards that most kids learn but also learned popular pop classics as well. Frank is an outstanding teacher and dedicated to the needs of his students. He taught my son the importance of preparation and what it's like to play in front of an audience. More importantly, Frank has inspired in my son a love of music and the piano that I never expected. He made Tim want to practice and become better. Over time he became a mentor to my son, and a friend to both of us. Tonight was the last regular lesson for Tim, at least for now, as he leaves for college. While it was bittersweet, Frank told Tim not to let his skills rust and whenever he's home from school to come over for a lesson. I can't thank Frank King enough for his dedication to furthering the love of music in his students and for teaching my son the discipline of practice and love of the piano. My son is a highly skilled pianist with unlimited potential because of Frank King.

After paying for private piano classes for our son for 6 months in 2014, we realized that he was making very little progress. We began to look for a new tutor & found Mr. King.
In less than 3 months our 7 year old son could play complex pieces, read music & went on to win first place in his schools talent show.
Mr. King is a piano instructor of extraordinary talent & dedication. He sets exceptionally high but not unreasonable standards for his students.
Consequently, we enrolled our three & a half year old daughter. While many piano instructors do not accept 3 year olds, he took her on as a new student & in a matter of 3 months she could read music notes & play piano!
His main strength, is the ability to engage & motivate my kids. He is always sincerely interested in their progress, encourages them to do their best & is brutally honest with them too.

I have been taking piano lessons for approximately four years. My first few teachers did a spotty job at best. They left me with many gaps in my knowledge of the piano and my performance had suffered. My current piano instructor, Frank King, conducted an assessment of my performance during the initial lesson. Based on his determination, he immediately created a customized program to bridge the gaps. I drive forty-five minutes every week to get to Frank's studio. I know quality when I see it and it's definitely worth the drive. Frank has a God-given talent to teaching. He uses a personalized approach for each student and explains things so you can understand. He listens to determine what the problems are, suggests the proper corrections and produces exceptional pianists. I can not believe how much I have grown as a musician. He has encouraged me and is so understanding. Frank loves teaching the piano. It is his passion. The time I have spent with him has been rewarding on both a professional and personal level. I highly recommend Frank King to anyone who has the desire to learn the piano.

Superb teacher. One of the best you can find especially if you are looking to introduce your child to the instrument at an early age of 6 and below. My son started when he was 5 and Mr Frank really guided me to where he is today at the age of 8. He gives the kids a lot of variety and more importantly lots of encouragement. He's not the teacher if you are looking to get certifications but if you want to develop a love for piano and music, then you should definitely train under him.
