The court has appellate jurisdiction when superior courts have original jurisdiction and in certain cases prescribed by statute, such as habeas corpus, mandamus, certiorari and prohibition proceedings. The Courts of Appeal have more than 20,000 filings. It also receives appeals from the decisions of the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board, Agricultural Labor Relations Board and Public Employment Relations Board. The Courts of Appeal is governed by the Judicial Branch of California.
