Overall

I feel especially thankful to Tom. Today, I took in one of the loves of my life to him for safekeeping, and hopefully, eventual rehabilitation. Seven years ago, when I was a young woman with no hint at my future, I bought a ball python I named Bucket. From the moment we met, I loved that little guy with all my heart. As a little hatchling, he sat on my head, curled into my pinned hair and slept. When he was a juvenline, he'd coil lazily around my waist and we'd go on walks. I used to get up in the morning and check the weather in portions of Senegal, trying to keep his humidity and temperature set appropriately in his enclosure. In short, I loved him, and although a relative once chided me to invest in pets that loved me back, Bucket and I had a bond.

A few years later, I had my first child. Bucket and I also had our first biting incident (I surprised him cleaning) and it started a gradual cycle of distance as I became a busy new mom, but also more standoffish and even slightly afraid. Additionally, I feared for my children, especially when number two turned out to be an intrepid climber and explorer, whose trespass into Bucket's cage was only a matter of time. And so, Bucket languished alone... rarely held anymore, only transferred between his feeding cage and his home. He became increasingly withdrawn and aggressive--and I don't blame him one bit: he was neglected.

After he struck me again last month, I resolved to find a placement for him. Even after I found Tom's number, it took me a few weeks to lift the phone. I did not want to let him go, and could not imagine further abandoning him. But then I finally did... and tom, thankfully, was on the other end of the line. Today, I took him in.. my friend I had raised, and done so poorly by. And I miss him, though I do not deserve to.

Thank you, Tom. for taking him in. Thank you for giving me a place to send him where he will be cared for, and perhaps eventually calmed and held again. I did not acquire him lightly, nor do I now leave him thus: sometimes our pets become our family. And though I may sound completely daft to people who have never liked snakes, Bucket was a part of my family, and he takes a piece of my heart with him.

Please don't hesitate to ask Tom for help for advice. And if you, like me, find yourself faced with the awful prospect of having to let a reptile friend go, make sure you call Tom and ask if he has a place, or knows of one. Animals deserve the best that we, as pet owners, can do for them... and that includes providing for them in eventuality that we can no longer keep them.

Thanks again, Tom. Please don't lose hope with my little Bucket of Trouble: he's a sweetheart who just needs some remembering.

Very Helpful.

I called on the phone asked for information about chameleons not knowing much about the specimens. I was just asking how much the chameleons in his store were and we got into an extensive conversation about the needs and and care that is required to keep a chameleon happy. Very very cool place. I will have to visit soon...some of the needs chameleons require:

40 gallon tank…3 foot by 3 foot

Minimum of 86 degrees

Maximum of 100 degrees

Adaquate water- drip system they do not drink water out of a dish

always eat live food- fascinated by movement.

smaller crickets for baby chameleons eating very small crickets for 3 months which is hard to find

They live 10 or more years depending on how you set things up.

Thanks a lot!

Me and my husband went there today and the owner was super helpful! He answered all our questions (and we had a lot) and even answered questions we didn't think to ask. The prices were reasonable (for those of you who think otherwise, go to a regular pet store and see how much they overcharge for animals who are being raised incorrectly, neglected, infested, and sometimes even sick!) and the animals looked healthy! I definitely recommend going there for pets, or even just for advice on pets you already have!

Also, for all you skeptics and sore-losers out there, I won the quarter game with one try!

Swords & Dreams is an incredible store. Tom, the owner, is dedicated to helping people, their pets, and saving reptiles in general. I love visiting the store because I learn something new every time I go in. He found my boyfriend and I the perfect reptile, a snake, and told us everything we needed to know. I highly recommend this store over any other store anywhere in Wisconsin. You won't find anything better.

The Only one in town

if you need anything with reptiles he will give you such a better treatment than your big chain pet store ran by teenagers. Tom takes the time with the people that stop in his store to make sure that they leave confident and positive that there reptiles will be the best addition to there lives that they could make. Just a great placee to just come and hang with all of

the cool critters there.

Thanks Tom!

I first walked into this store about a year ago on a whim.I now own 2 bearded dragons, 3 ball pythons, 3 corn snakes and a crested gecko.Tom inspired me into this hobby. He has given me the knowledge and insight to care for these animals. Not to mention the great deals on supplies. This is not a business to him.It is a passion.Too many people look at reptiles as disposable and leave the mess for him to clean up.Please consider adoption before going to a pet store.Tom will not sell an animal unitl it is 100% healthy. Also please consider donating supplies, food dishes, pet food of any kind, cages etc.It all goes to the reptiles. Thanks Tom!

Friendliest, Most Well Intended Store Ever!!!!

Upon arrival I was greeted by the store owner, Tom, with the most friendly manner. I was greatly excited by the wide array of items that they had available to purchase. It's also nice to see that Tom has put soo much into saving reptiles and much more. I purchased a belt that I have never seen anywhere else for only $7.42. It was a perfect buy. I only wish I had more money to purchase more items. But rest assured as soon as payday comes, I'll be going back to buy some decorative items for my apartment.
