Chas has been working with my barky aggressive dog Ringo and with my Big Baby Roscoe and I have seen a world of difference in both of them. I can finally take Ringo for a walk around the block without him freaking out at every little thing and Roscoe is finally starting to do what I want him to do even when he doesn't want to do it! And all of this with just very simple basic commands and rules to follow!

We are only three lessons into a twelve lesson program but the difference in our rescue dog Buddy has been unbelievable. Before Chas Buddy was barely controllable with a choke collar, now Buddy walks calmly next to us with a calm "heal" command. Our goal going forward is for Buddy to be as obedient as Chas's dog Lilly who is the best trained dog I have ever witnessed.

I would say most of these reviews are accurate. I do not believe that Chas has harsh methods. He believes in exhausting all options before using a more "aggressive" technique. I came to Chas with doubts only because I started very late with my dog- he is almost 6 years old. I also have an aggressive dog that is very stubborn. I am not able to take my dog to group classes and let him off the leash without worrying that he will attack another dog. I would never have thought that possible. And all of this was possible without any harsh or aggressive training techniques. I recommend Chas to anyone who wants to train their dog.

We returned to Chas 9 years later after having trained our first dog, Kobe with him when he was a puppy. Our second puppy, Ramsey, is a very large pitbull. He is very smart but easily excitable and distracted. He had also begun, at 6 months to show some stranger/fear aggression. After only two lessons with Chas, Ramsey can now lay in the middle of the room with activity going on around him and not pay any attention or move. He is also walking so nicely that my 11 year old daughter can walk him with no problems what so ever.

The techniques that Chas uses are very straight forward and to the point. He keeps the expectations very simple and easily understood so that it makes it very uncomplicated for the dog to know what he/she is supposed to do. He does not complicate things with clickers or treats, sit simply means sit. I have seen other reviews of his methods that describe them as "harsh". I very much have to disagree. Too many trainers are treating dogs as children or people, Chas understands that dogs are animals, not human, and the techniques he uses are not only appropriate, but extremely effective and not confusing to the dogs.

I would and do recommend Chas and DBF to everyone who has a dog with any type of issues. We will continue to use Chas with our puppy now and any other dogs we may have down the road.

Chas is the best!

I have an 11 month old boxer puppy...he was getting out of control and I was at my wits end. I searched a few places on line and I even had called a few. When I spoke with Chas I knew I found my trainer. I highly recommend private first before group...especially if your dog is not used to other dogs. It helped me emensly. He also gave me homework....if you don't do it....the classes don't work as well. Follow his training techniques...and you'll be amazed! Louie is no longer the same unruly boy!

I would highly recommend Chas and the work he does with dogs! He individualizes his approach and truly wants to help the owner. My dog Roger, a basset hound, was 7 months old when we got him from a reputable breeder. He lived with 12 other dogs and was very mellow. Unfortunately, within 2 months the first 3 dogs he met in our neighborhood were mean to him, with one actually biting him on the ear. (It's owner had to remove it from Roger's ear and her dog bit her.) Consequently, Roger was traumatized and saw all dogs as enemies. He turned into "Cujo" whenever he saw another dog. (He was great with all other animals, adults and children.) Chas works individually with Roger and me to achieve the needed results. Roger is so much better! We are on our 7th lesson and I can't believe he is the same dog. Chas uses his dog in the lessons to desensitize the traumatized dogs to other dogs and I think this has been a real bonus. If you want your dog to be a happy dog and well behaved, I highly recommend Dog's Best Friend!

My husband and I have a 3 year old Weimaraner, Riley, that is very sweet, but showed aggression at the door and was aggressive to other dogs when on a leash; and this is after completing lessons when she was young. As a safety precaution we sought help from a dog trainer. Chas was recommended by a friend, and we couldn't be more pleased. Chas worked with my husband and me to teach us proper control of Riley and although she is a very determined dog, we now have control. Chas' teaching method is fair and firm and he is always conscious of safety. These lessons have been exactly what we needed for Riley. My only regret is I wish we would have hired him when Riley was a puppy. I was not offered a free lesson by writing this, but the cost of the lessons were worth every penny. Riley is a well behaved dog and we are a happy family!

We got a lab mix when he was 3 months old his name is Vador. Vador would not like to go on walks he would just sit down and not listen it would take us 45 mins. just to get to the end of the block. Vador would also bit and chew everything like most puppies do. After the first lesson with Chas Vador's bitting got 100% better. After the second lesson Vador would walk without pulling or stopping, we now take him on 30 min. to 45 min walks with no problems. Chas is very friendly and fun to work with. We are in the middle of our private lessons, but once we are done we will be signing up for the group lessons. If you are looking for a dog trainer i highly recommend Chas at Mans best friend.

After meeting with Chas for the first time to have him evaluate my dogs temperament, I knew that his training style was not the conventional “group training-walk the dog in a circle”. He worked with me and my dog to achieve what I wanted out of my dog as for training. I participated in both group and individual lessons, and found both very helpful. After the training classes, I continually get complements on how well trained my dog is, and family members are actually jealous of her compared to their own dogs. I highly recommend Chas and trust his training abilities because he works with you as a owner and person to achieve your individual goals for the training and acknowledge where the problems may be present. Couldn’t be happier with how well the training has helped with my dog.

I have a 5 yr. old german shepherd "Zophie" that had been to obedience training in the past at a different training facility. I had been noticing an increasing level of aggression in her towards other dogs. I've tried everything with her, but knew it was only a matter of time before she hurt me in trying to get to another dog or became involved in a serious fight. I was very concerned as I was going to be taking care of my daughter's dog "Cue"for 10 days while she was gone on vacation. Last year the 2 dogs had gotten into a fight and it was terrible trying to keep the 2 dogs apart while the other dog stayed with us. I was very apprehensive about Cue's staying with us. By chance I read an article about Chas and his training facility . I am totally amazed at the change he has brought about in both dogs. I took Zophie to private training initially then added Cue. Within minutes the dogs were ignoring each other. It is 3 lessons later and the dogs are getting along loose in the house, no major conflicts. It has been such a relief and consequently a pleasurable visit. Not at all like last year. I will continue taking Zophie to group classes now so that she can continue to grow in her tolerance of other dogs. She is well on her way. I would recommend Chas to anyone looking for a trainer. I just wish I had known about him years ago when I first got Zophie. His methods are easy to follow at home and sure get quick results. Well worth the money.

We have used Chas from Dogs Best Friend for training our dog Lucy. We saw immediate positive results and have continued to see improvement with each lesson. Chas is clear in his communication with us and Lucy. He has specific and documented objectives for every lesson and for the assigned tasks we are to work on between lessons. The approach he uses is very friendly to the dog but yet is very clear and consistent in terms of expectations for the dog’s behavior. As the result of the lessons, we have been able to enjoy our dog much more and feel her behavior has improved significantly as the result of Chas’ training techniques.

this training has made an amazing turn around in my dog. My wiener-lab ,Frances is 3 yrs old and i was not certain she would catch on. My main issue with her was her lack of listening or completely ignoring me when i tried to stop a certain behavior , her growling / barking when people came over. I didn't know how to curb that behaviour. i would put her in her crate and listen to her bark and misbehave. Within 3 minutes with Chas he showed me how to get her to listen to me, it is amazing. And it is easy. She was a good dog before but is the best dog ever now ! Thanks Chas!

I adopted a 6 year old Husky who was very neglected. I called around to a lot of dog trainers and Chas, at Dogs Best Friend, was the only person to take the time to talk to me and explain everything I wanted to know before we signed up for classes. My dog, Kian, and I have been working with him for a couple months now, and couldn't be happier! Chas makes our classes really fun, and he is very positive in his approach to training! He even accommodates my crazy schedule! I recommend Dogs Best Friend, 100%, to everyone I talk to!!!

My 10 month old strong willed,...

My 10 month old strong willed, but adorable Airedale, Teagan, met Chas about a month ago. She was introduced to Chas because she lacked manners and discipline and at 70 pounds, I could no longer manage her on a leash. We have had five private lessons with Chas and only one group lesson so far. I would have never believed that within one short month, my naughty dog would sit, stay, lie down, come, and heel whenever asked with a single command and also understand the meaning of the word NO. She also can do this in a room full of other dogs with a lot of distractions going on all around her. It is amazing.

Chas is a true dog professional and trains dog owners to understand how and why the training techniques work and experiencing the effectiveness is very rewarding. Teagan and I now have enjoyable walks with no pulling my arm out of the socket. We can now invite guests into our home without them being jumped on or having their shoes or socks nibbled. Although we still have a few bad habits to correct, I am confident that before Teagan’s first birthday, she will be the well behaved best friend we always dreamed of. We are so very proud of her. Thank you Chas.

I have grown up around dogs and love being with them. My family always had small dogs that were easy to control. Now, my husband and I have a pitbull. Everyone immediately thinks that he is going to bite their faces and are afraid to come over, but he is the sweetest thing ever.... just very hyper! I took Tyson to Dog's best friend and have seen a total change in him. I brought my mom to a training session and she could not believe how great he did there! He still has some work to do with his energy, but I am more confident having him around other people now.

After adopting Shyla from the Humane Society, I realized that not only was she aggressive, but this was alot harder than I had imagined, and I needed major help. Chas has been working with Shyla and I for over a year now, and the difference in Shyla's behavior is awesome. Not only has Chas guided me in training Shyla, but has encouraged and motivated me to make the commitment to continue daily training at home.He is an outstanding teacher and I'm excited to be a proud dog owner!

I started taking my dog to Dog's Best Friend for training to see if we could work on some general aggression issues that my dog had been having for some time. Within the first training sessions there was noticeable improvement in my dog's behavior, and it only continued to improve from there on out. Chas does an impeccable job at showing exactly what to do when unwanted behavior occurs, and how to encourage good behavior every time it happens. I would certainly tell anyone with a dog to go to Dog's Best Friend for training, even if your dog isn't a "problem" dog. Great things are sure to come!

I took my dog to Chas at Dog's Best Friend for training as my dog had issues with aggression towards children and some strangers. Through a mix of private and group training sessions, Chas was able to show me how to change my dog's behavior (and my own way of dealing with the behavior) with simple and effective techniques. I have recommended Chas and Dog's Best Friend to family and friends knowing that they will get the same awesome results that I experienced. I now know that my dog can and will be well behaved around everyone she meets!

Chas uses a harsh approach when training dogs. His primary technique is using a choke collar and yanking it when they don't do what they are supposed to. My dog now displays fear aggression towards men, which I hope I can break him of. Ironically enough, I have ran into a couple of people who have used Chas in the past and have had the same negative experience. My current trainer hired him to train her dog many years ago and her dog also developed a fear based aggression towards men. I ended up skipping out on my last training session and would never recommend him to anyone. I was actually shocked to see that people have been giving him good reviews, but maybe it's because he offers them a free lesson if they put a good review on this site just like he did me. Not to mention he is way overpriced. If you want your dog to listen because it is scared of you then by all means use Chas Rooney, but if you want a dog to listen because it trusts you, then I would seek training elsewhere.

claimed iconBusiness Response02/24/2012

I am saddened that "thatfolksygirl" would not address me personally during class if she was discouraged. I make it very clear that I allow the customers to guide the methods used to train their dogs. To this end, all training is initiated without the use of any form of choke, pronged, or training collar Only on a customer's request will they be allowed. Constantly, throughout class, am I reminding owners to talk to and praise their dogs more. If somehow I was unable to convey this message to "thatsfolksygirl" I am sorry. Ultimately it is my customer that decides how they will train their dog. I only interact with the dog on the first visit. Every visit after that I will only intervene by customers request and authority, understanding, and permission as to what they want me to do.

I have trained two dogs, both ...

I have trained two dogs, both Labradors, with Dogs Best Friend and its owner Chas. In my opinion each was a success. If you achieve 75% of the perfection Chas expects I know you’ll be pleased with your dog(s). We get so many compliments on how well our dogs behave and listen to the members of the family. He may come off a little quirkie, but I can’t argue with the success of his methods. A large part of the training is training you, and if you are not seeing results, then you’ve no one but yourself to blame. You’ve got to do your homework outside of class and spend the time with your dog. Most of us could do these things on our own, just like losing weight or body building, but we lack the discipline, we need a coach, a trainer... and that is where Dogs Best Friend comes in. It worked amazingly for our dogs!
