I have dealt with chronic, horrible nosebleeds since I was a child but in the past 15 years they have gotten worse, so much so that I usually have to go to the ER at least 2-4 times a year. I had to see Dr. Grunke after one of them to have a nasal packing removed and I thought maybe I'd get some good advice or at least feel like I had my situation given real consideration. But instead all I got what he said I just need to moisturize it and gave me a prescription for "his own formula" of a nasal spray with an antibiotic added in. Well the only way that spray would do enough for me is if I poured the whole bottle in at one time. I had to see him a few more times for the same issue, and again he just said I need to moisturize (I also put Neosporin or Vaseline in my nose at night and in the morning as well as have a humidifier). The last time I went to have a packing removed he said he would cauterize it which I have also had done. However, I've only ever had the nosebleeds out of the left nostril and he wanted to also do the right, I told him that side never bled, but he did it anyway. That was over a year or so ago and now when I get a bloody nose, now it also bleeds from that side-so I went from just one nostril to both. I have a whole nose bleed kit that I carry in my purse with me at all times because I'm scared to death of being somewhere and having one of them. All I wanted was for a dr to take a good look and let me know some options, because this isn't normal, everytime I get one I just about end up passing out from the blood loss. I went to the hematologist and even though I do not have a classified blood clotting disorder, he said that there is a spray that helps with clotting and someone like myself could benefit from having it. It is a strong prescription and can't be used more than once in 2 days but it is meant to be used to keep me from always having to go to the ER and now I feel I at least have some peace! He referred me to another ENT, Dr. Feldman, and he was so nice and did a thorough exam. He presented me with several options of things that we can look at if they still persist after using the prescription spray. I feel so much better knowing the time was taken to get to know my circumstances and put me at ease for the future. I know Dr. Grumke has been in his profession for many years, but sometimes the older ones get set in their ways and do not want to further their education or ways of treatments that can better help their patients.
