With its unique focus on artifacts relating to the educational history of blind and visually impaired people, the Museum of the American Printing House for the Blind is the only museum of its kind in the country. The collection celebrates the efforts of blind individuals, teachers and inventors to overcome obstacles to learning and to achieve independence. Combine your museum visit with a tour of the American Printing House for the Blind, the largest factory of its type in the world. The collection includes historic embossed books, tactile maps and globes, early mechanical braille writers, and equipment used in the production of talking books and embossed books. Your visit will be a hands-on experience. Write your name in braille. Test your comprehension skills while using a computer equipped with synthesized speech output. Explore other raised-letter and tactile alphabet codes. And experience what it is like to have a wealth of knowledge at the tips of your fingers.
