Child Support
The calculation of child support is chiefly determined by two primary components: (1) the income of both parents and (2) the time share each parent has with the children. Guideline child support is initially calculated by a computer formula commonly known as a Dissomaster calculation. However, a proper child support calculation involves much more than the input of numbers. Many relevant factors and tactics must be considered, including earning capacity of the parties, tax implications, high income earners and allowable departure from guideline support, and imputation of income to achieve a correct inclusion of all allowable income for the computation of child support.
Child Custody and Visitation
Zolla Law understands the sensitive and delicate issues associated with child custody and visitation. Because each child and each set of parents have individual needs and circumstances, we work closely with mental health professionals, custody consultants, and co-parenting mediators to determine what parenting plan is in the best interests of the child. We often recommend that the parties participate in individual therapy and co-parenting mediation to help the parents cope with the divorce, help the child to cope with what is often a difficult transition, and help the parents learn how to better communicate with one another. We work with, recommend, and refer clients to experienced therapists and mediators as part of our interdisciplinary approach to help our clients further the best interests of the children. In the appropriate circumstances, therapy is sometimes needed for children as well.

Heidi L. Madzar has been exclusively practicing family law in the Los Angeles community for the past twenty years. Premarital Agreement
Protecting one’s personal financial assets is a prudent step to safeguard children and heirs to a client’s estate if she or he is considering entering into a marriage or domestic partnership. Prenuptial agreements are designed to protect a client’s financial estate in the event one party desires to maintain the separate characterization of assets following marriage. Community property laws in California are complex and often confusing. These agreements can, if properly handled, provide clarity to parties as they enter into a new relationship.

Spousal Support
Spousal Support is a significant and often contentious component of most marital separations. The various factors used to determine a fair amount of spousal support include the parties’ marital standard of living, the respective income of each party, the length of marriage, health and education of the parties, and all the factors set forth in Family Code Section 4320.

Juvenile Crimes
Ms. Koontz graduated from Duke University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology with a double-major in Cultural Anthropology. Ms. Koontz obtained her Law Degree from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles in 2021 and was admitted to practice in California that same year. While attending Loyola, Ms. Koontz was the Family Law Society events co-chair, and a participant in the Youth Justice Education Clinic, where she worked to provide legal services to both special needs and incarcerated children throughout Southern California. Ms. Koontz also externed for the U.S. Attorney’s Office and served as a research assistant for the Loyola Center for Juvenile Law and Policy Report, “ Fifty Years of ‘Deputy Gangs’ in the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department: Identifying Root Causes and Effects to Advocate for Meaningful Reforms. ”
