What many people don’t realize, though, is that dental care is just as important for dogs and cats. Tooth and gum problems are extremely common among companion animals. In fact, roughly 70% of pets suffer from some type of dental disease by the time they reach three years of age. When left untreated, problems involving the teeth and gums can lead to serious complications.
Vaccination
In many cases, we recommend additional vaccines based on certain lifestyle factors. Known as lifestyle vaccines, these vaccinations protect pets against things like Bordetella. Be sure to let us know if you travel with your pet, spend a lot of time in wooded areas, or take your pet to places where there are other animals, such as groomers, boarding facilities, dog parks, etc. Providing us with accurate information regarding your pet’s lifestyle and potential risk factors will help us choose the vaccines that will best suit their needs.
Nutritional Counseling
When you come to us for nutritional counseling, we will do everything we can to help you better understand your pet’s dietary needs. We will explain the various pros and cons of some of the most popular pet foods on the market. We will also assess your dog or cat’s activity level, size, weight, and any special needs they may have to help you decide on a diet that is right for them.
Comprehensive Examination
At Parkview Pet Hospital, we strongly believe that routine wellness care is the key to ensuring your companion’s long-term health and wellbeing. Bringing your pet in for preventative care and routine exams provides an opportunity for us to detect - and begin treatment for - minor problems before they become serious. Wellness exams also allow us to monitor your pet’s overall health and proactively respond to any changes we may find.
These tiny parasites pose a serious risk to their health, too. Ticks are known to carry several potentially devastating diseases - including Lyme Disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever - and fleas can spread tapeworms and cause anemia and a wide range of other issues. At Parkview Pet Hospital, we recommend protecting your pet through the use of high-quality flea and tick products. From oral pills to topical drops, we have the products needed to safeguard your pet against external parasites. For flea and tick products in Long Beach, you’ve come to the right place!

X-Ray
Choose a veterinarian who is calm, compassionate and willing to explain all the procedures your pet undergoes. Try to find a vet with whom both you and your pet feel comfortable. Try to have it convenient, choose a clinic with qualified staff and facilities to undertake surgery and perform procedures requiring anesthesia, such as teeth cleaning. Because of the general risks inherent to anesthesia, especially for very old, very young or very ill pets, your veterinarian will likely suggest a few exams, including a chest X-ray and lab work of blood and urine, before your pet is anesthetized. During the procedure he might need an IV drip; antibiotics may be necessary before and after.
Dental Radiology
When we need to take a closer look inside your pet’s body, we may need to take x-rays or perform an ultrasound. We use digital x-ray equipment for dental x-rays and to examine your pet’s bones, tendons, etc. Ultrasound imaging is typically used when we need to see inside a dog or cat’s organs.
Microchipping
Unfortunately, the American Humane Society estimates that roughly one-third of all pets become lost at some point in their lifetime. Of them, 80 percent never find their way home again. Those are some scary statistics, but there is something that you can do. By having your pet microchipped, you can greatly increase the likelihood of being reunited with your furry friend if they ever run away or get lost. At Parkview Pet Hospital, we offer pet microchipping in Long Beach and would be more than happy to perform this simple and potentially life-saving procedure on your dog or cat.
