My mother stayed at the skilled nursing side of the Pearl for 21 days after having the flu and in the hospital for 3 days. She is 85 years old and the staff must think that because they are at the prestigious “pearl” in the lake Oswego that they don’t have to talk to you or even look up at you when you come in and wait at their check-in window to see your parent. 20 minutes was the average time for someone to acknowledge that you were standing 3 feet from them. McDonald’s, Fred Meyer, and target have better service and friendliness then the “elite staff“ at the pearl. Be prepared to be completely ignored by the staff and your elderly parent to receive the bare minimum cate. They also were giving my mother daily physical therapy and she was having trouble walking and I told them that she had long toenails on her second toes because of a club toe that needed a doctor or nurse to trim so she could walk during her physical therapy. You would think after $20,000 of staying there they could’ve trimmed my mother’s nails, but no, this was completely forgotten.
I also made a surprise visit at lunch and there was my poor mother with her head on the dining room table asleep next to her uneaten plate of food completely ignored. Boy did they jump to Johnny on the spot when they saw me walk in and took care of my mother immediately. Don’t be fooled by the pearl, it’s a beautiful place but the elderly living there mean nothing to the staff. My mother has been in different senior care homes for less money and had supreme service. Oh and by the way, I asked one of the orderlies for some toenail trimmers and I trimmed my mother’s toenails myself finally. Luckily I have been living in Lake Oswego for 15 years and I could drop by and check in on my mother often while she got well. Despicable is the definition for the “Pearl”.
Don’t let their grand Whistler resort facade entrance fool you.

Don't be fooled by the nice furnishings and the good food. A skilled nursing facility is only as good as the care givers it employs and most of the people working at the Pearl should not be taking care of anyone due to their lack of caring, incompetence and laziness. I received absolutely terrible "care" while staying here for 12 days. (A handful of RN's and CNA were excellent, but were far and few in the sea of incompetent ones.) (One nurse ripped an inch of my skin when changing a dressing, saying that ripping skin is just part of removing dressing. Another nurse failed to answer my call button for 35 minutes when I needed to go to the bathroom and only came when I called the front desk on my private phone after googling the Pearl's phone number on my laptop. I was told that in the future I should just have an accident and that they'd clean me up afterwards! When getting me ready for bed, another nurse left me uncovered and practically naked with the air conditioner blowing when her shift was over. She announced she had worked 4 minutes past the end of her shift and that the next shift would come in and cover me with a sheet and blanket and walked out the door. I lay there freezing for 25 minutes before the next shift came on and finally covered me. Aside from these major breaches in care, call buttons consistently went unanswered for 10-15 minutes (they assured me they have 18 minutes by law to answer a call button!), my pain meds were routinely delivered late (again they have 45 minutes to deliver meds before they are considered late), food was served cold, and so many other small things happened I can't even keep count. At the end of the stay, I was assured by the director of nursing that while she had reprimanded those who treated me so poorly that she stands by her staff and the exemplary qualify of care that the Pearl provides. The problem actually lies with me. They had done a poor job educating me about the actual level of care to expect and that my expectations were just way too high--they couldn't possibly ever provide me the type of care I had been expecting. Since they pretend to be a 5-star care facility, I was surprised to find out that they actually strive to provide only the state minimum mandated levels of care, and that they do. So, if you are looking for dismal level care at a premium price in a beautifully furnished institution, the Pearl is the place for you. If you actually seek excellent or even good care, run far and fast from the Pearl, since you will not find that here.

My Mother was brought to the Pearl from the hospital to recover from pneumonia. On first look we were all impressed on the room and hotel like entrance. But looks are very deceiving. The nurse we dealt with told us that her first night would be a transition, always is. They would be there and she would be taken care of. My mom was a bit weak and still sick. We called the next morning to see how her first night went. Right away the nurse harshly complained of my mom calling out, needing help more then others and "disturbing her neighbors". I told her that she sounded really mad and she said she had a long night.

Called twice later in the day and no answer in the nurses station. We worried about my moms care immediately. We went and visited that afternoon and helped her eat her dinner which was served cold. We asked for maybe some soup for her or possibly to get her food reheated. Waited 20 min and decided to find someone and then we were told the kitchen was closed. Asked for a lid for her water cause it is hard to drink water in bed and were told they didn't have any right now. But we could buy one and bring it in.

Lack of staff is major, one poor aid was running from room to room. My mom pushed her call button and waited over 20 min. Other patients had their lights on were calling out for help. No one in the nurses station. No answer next day when I called the nurses station two different times. Our Mom was rushed to the ER the next day dehydrated, scared and weaker then when she left the hospital. So sorry we let the hospital send her to this place. Beware. Receptionist answers the phone " It's a great day at the Pearl" Makes me cringe now.

The Pearl has amazing staff they really care, the nurses, CNAs, and Administration all go the extra mile to make sure you have a great rehab stay. The therapy department is really fantastic, they figure out new a creative ways to work you everyday. They all help you get back to your former level of independence as quickly as possible.
